The Future of Gaming Consoles

This is something that I have thought about on numerous occasions. With apps and virtual reality increasing in popularity, do you think traditional gaming consoles will begin to become irrelevant in the next 10-15 years? I can envision a future where gaming consoles in the form of the PS4 and Xbox One are a thing of the past. People will want something much more convenient and with the exception of handheld devices, gaming consoles simply don't offer the same convenience as smartphones and virtual reality devices. What are your thoughts on it?
