I made a thread today about an hour or so ago. I made it for the purposes of having a thoughtful and constructive discussion, as you may see from the first post I made in that thread. However, no one else commenting in that thread is even acknowledging the first post or the title of the thread, and aren't even discussing at all the main topic intended for that thread. I've even asked them twice to stop what they were doing and to contribute to the main topic of the thread if they wanted to contribute at all. This is thread hijacking, this is what turns forums intended for thoughtful discussion into troll forums. What I'm proposing here is that this action be penalized, that those who contribute to thread hijacking are dealt with three strikes; Two warnings, and then a 24-hour ban. This will help keep Popedia from becoming another Vestibule.

I saw the two posts that you made, but I didn't see them until minutes later, then I just said that I thought the 70's were better for rock because I don't really listen to that much rock music.

RockyMountainExtremeSorry for the delayed response. I have been busy over the past two days, so I haven't had a chance to log on or post as often as I would like to. Anyway, I did read the thread in question. I decided to move a few posts, namely the posts which discuss how good other decades were for music (e.g 2010s). In any case, I don't think it was intentional. I believe the title may have accidentally been misread by others, which is why the conversation initially turned into discussing '80s music in general (rather than discussing how overrated it was for rock music). On that last point, I have taken your suggestion into consideration. Myself personally, I think a 24-hour ban would be a bit harsh, in such a scenario. I will, however, discuss the suggestion with the other staff members of the forum and here what they have to say on the matter. Thread hijacking hasn't been a concern on Popedia so far. Conversations can naturally veer somewhat off-topic from the original purpose of the thread. As long as the posts encourage constructive discussion and refer back to the topic in some form, I don't think it's a major concern, personally. Nevertheless, the Popedia staff will continue to monitor/moderate the threads on the forum and make sure that the conversations don't become too unrelated from the original purpose of the threads. Also, just as a side note, I do plan on responding to the thread you have created. I'll get around to posting a response as soon as I get a chance.
