When Apple released it's "Apple iWatch" in Early 2015, I can remember thinking that smartwatches would one day replace smartphones in terms of popularity and relevancy. Yet, it's now 2018 and smartphones remain the most dominant form of mobile technology, with smartwatches seemingly remaining more of a "niche'" thing. At this time, I actually think a "virtual reality" device of some form will eventually replace smartphones and become the next "big thing", instead of smartwatches.
What is your opinion on it? Do you think smartwatches will ever truly replace smartphones?

Smarwatches are nowhere near as revolutionary as smartphones, they're irrelevant.

Honestly, I doubt smartwatches will ever become more popular than they are now. I don't know anyone who owns one and if I ever hear someone talk about them its usually in a negative light.

longaotian smartboiI agree with both of you. I personally don't know anyone who owns a smartwatch either. It's surprising that they have never really become more popular, because you'd think that people would want to buy something so small and convenient to use.

Strongly doubt it. It’s been 3 years and everybody wants the iPhone X instead.

I honestly forgot they existed... Literally the day AFTER I decided I want to get a Pebble, it got discontinued. I think I might get a Fitbit. I saw it on sale for $120. Now I'm waiting for it to go on sale again because there's no way I'm paying $200 now that I know it can be $120.

I'd say that's a good decision to wait for it go on sale again. Is it bad that I've never heard of either of those watches before?

Pebble was a super nerd watch so I wouldn't expect everyone to know about it. I'm surprised you haven't heard about FitBit though.

I'm not sure if it's the case in Canada and the US, but FitBits are pretty popular here in Australia. A few of my friends own one and you often hear of people using them during their exercise routines.

I doubt it. If they were I reckon they would’ve done so by now me thinks. Seeing as they’ve been on the market for years now, it will remain a niche selling device amongst the hipsters. I only know a handful of people who actually owns one. And even then, it’s been mostly negative feedback I’ve heard. Smartphones are here to stay for the time being until something bigger, better and revolutionary takes over - which won’t be the smartwatch.

I'm really surprised that smartwatches didn't become more popular though, especially considering their convenience and small size. Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be!
