What songs from the 1980s do you believe are underplayed and/or underrated?
It's a shame that "Life in a Northern Town" proved to be the only noteworthy hit for Dream Academy. It's a pretty good song. Unfortunately, it generally doesn't receive a lot of airplay on radio.

One of my absolute favourite songs of the whole decade, and yet it never charted any higher than #83. I blame Heart's toxic relationship with Epic Records for its failure.
A collaboration between one of the major pioneers of hip hop, as well as one of the forerunners of punk? A fast, driving beat and aggressive lyrics with ferocious delivery? How could you possibly go wrong? I can't believe this song never blew up. It didn't even reach the top 40 in the UK.
Aliens Ate My Buick is a great record in general and definitely one of the most underrated albums of the 1980s. Sadly, it produced no real hit singles, despite its great balance of pop infectiousness and charming wackiness. The above song is the album's most successful single, and yet only reached #53 in the UK and #6 on the US Dance chart.
