My interest in the '70s has increased in recent months. The thing I find most interesting about the '70s, is that they were the first overall decade that feels connected to the present time. They certainly don't feel "vintage", by any means. Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the '70s? Do you like the pop culture of the decade, such as the music, TV shows, movies, fashion etc.?

This is the oldest decade I love learning about personally. It's a very flawed decade with mostly terrible economies across the globe and subpar/mediocre contribution to categories like animation and tv, which adds to the charm. This is where the social uproars of the 60s started to take shape, before nosediving again in the 80s. I also like the fashion a lot, as well as the constantly changing/hard to resume music.
I don't care about the 80s at all, and the 90s were ruined a bit by the over-nostalgia from a few years back, so the 70s are probably the definite 20th century decade to me.

The 1970s was the decade of my mother's youth and teens. She exposed me to a lot of '70s music & TV shows. Through TV and online, I've been exposed to '70s movies (my mother is not a huge movie fan), fashion and politics. The 1970s economically was the second-worst decade for the US in American history (only beaten by the 1930s). Yet, it's ironic, that there's so much nostalgia and love for the '70s. The 1970s was also the decade that Detroit started to decline from being the Motor City, factories were starting to ship jobs overseas - causing the Rust Belt's decline, American car companies were losing a ton of ground to Japanese car companies because of oil prices and environmental issues - that caused a resurgence of anti-Japanese sentiment in the US, all major cities in the US saw a MASSIVE increase in crime and this would last until the mid 1990s, Disney severely declined in the '70s after the death of Walt Disney in 1966, American animation declined as a result and wouldn't recover until the late '80s/early '90s. Obviously, politically, the US was in a mess as Nixon's corruption was exposed (Watergate) and Presidents Ford and Carter were ineffective. I don't hate the 1970s but I don't love it like some people do but it's definitely one of the most defining decades of the 20th century. The only thing I love about the '70s is the muscle cars ( ), some of the fashion (a lot of women dressed very sexy ), some of the movies, a good amount of the music, and the iconic TV shows.
