Earlier today, I happened to come across the fake rumour on social media that Spongebob will be cancelled on the 1st March. I haven't watched the show in a very long time, so it made me a bit curious as to how many seasons of the show there have been. I was quite surprised when I found out that Spongebob is currently in it's 10th season. Anyway, it gave me the idea to create this thread. What current TV shows, do you believe, should be cancelled? The Simpsons:As further detailed in the "The decline of The Simpsons" thread, there is a general consensus that The Simpsons is not as good as it once was. The show is currently in it's 29th season and it has already been renewed for a 30th. I personally think The Simpsons should have concluded after the release of the movie. Seasons 10-18 weren't particularly great, but had Season 18 been the final season of the show, I think The Simpsons would still have a strong legacy. Spongebob Squarepants:
Seasons 1-3 were excellent and the original movie was quite decent as well, IMO. I believe Spongebob should have cancelled after the movie was released, which was, in fact, the original intention for the show. The only reason why the show continued on after the movie, was that Nickelodeon demanded more episodes. Season 4 wasn't too bad, but the show took a massive nosedive in quality towards the end of the season and it has never recovered.

SpongeBob has recovered since season 9. Is the show like how it was during Seasons 1-3? I gave up on the show during the mid-way point of Season 5, and that was back in 2009.

I also think all the cartoons I grew up with (Thomas the Tank Engine, Fireman Sam etc) should’ve been cancelled before they went CGI. They all look disgusting now and nothing like how they were when I watched them. And and if you want to include the reality shows, most (if not all) of them should be cancelled.

Another one I'd add to the list: The Footy Show (both the AFL and NRL versions).
For those overseas who probably have no idea what I'm talking about without a Google search - football-based discussion panel program(s) seen on the Nine Network here in Australia. Almost a cultural icon back in the 1990s and the first half of the 2000s, but hasn't rated overly well for more than a decade now because there hasn't been major changes to the content of the program(s) in many years despite major cast changes and newer On-Air Presentation packages over time.

Another one I have thought of is Survivor (the US version). I used to watch it regularly between 2008 and 2014, however I lost interest in it, because the show has become very repetitive. Apparently it still rates well in the US, so it's unlikely that it's going to be cancelled anytime soon.

I'd personally like to see all reality programs in the dating/wedding/relationship genres to disappear from our screens. As far as I can tell, most of them seem to be more about people trying to boost their media profiles rather than actually finding love!

The Bachelorette. Enough is enough! Okay, I admit, I watch it sometimes. Haha, I know what you mean! That's pretty much like me and this Australian reality-TV show called "Married at First Sight". It's a show where two complete strangers are matched with each other on their wedding day and they need to live together for a month, before deciding whether to continue the relationship or not. It's a ridiculous concept and I don't normally like reality-TV shows, but because my Mum watches it and i'm usually in the loungeroom when it's on, I have a bit of an interest in it. I'd personally like to see all reality programs in the dating/wedding/relationship genres to disappear from our screens. As far as I can tell, most of them seem to be more about people trying to boost their media profiles rather than actually finding love! I tend to agree. Speaking of dating shows that need to be cancelled, Channel Nine's "Date Night" is another good example of this thread. I'm not sure if you've watched it or not, but it would have to be one of the worst Australian reality-TV shows to have ever been produced. It's essentially like a "poor-man's" Gogglebox, just with a focus on dating.

A few more I have thought of: * Family Guy - Ugh, that show is an absolute embarrassment. * Bondi Rescue - I don't understand why Ten persists in renewing the show each year. It was great for it's time, but it's now 2018; it needs to go.
