Sorry to tag all of you, but there is a reason behind my madness. As you may agree, Popedia has experienced a slump in activity over the past six months or so. The average number of posts each day has decreased, while the number of visitors to the site have also been on the decline as well. I'm not exactly sure what the reasons for the trend are, but in any case, I think we can all agree that Popedia could do with a bit of change and that is something that is set to happen. The only question however is what things should be changed and what should remain the same? This is why I have tagged everyone. What would you like to see changed? Should some of our sub-boards/categories be removed, renamed etc.? Is there anything else that you would like to see on Popedia? The Popedia Staff and I are open to all ideas and suggestions, so please don't hold back from expressing your thoughts. We would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Maybe turn notifications for LOL back on and add it on mobile. This forum could use more funny business

I have also noticed the lack of activity as of late, I don't understand why this is the case.
Something I would definitely keep the same is the moderation here. The rules are clear and they are enforced well when required. This is in comparison to another site (don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out which one) which I sometimes feel needs a little bit of a refresh in terms of some of the site staff. I would compare the situation to Karl Stefanovic at the Today show, IMO they need some fresh blood because some of the existing staff have been there for too long and it's starting to show.

Unfortunately though, I won't be able to implement the feature for the mobile version, because plug-ins only work through the desktop version of the site (it's a limitation of Proboards). Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, that has been an issue on that site for quite a few years now. The site staff are incompetent and often turn a blind eye to things which need to be addressed. They are also unfairly bias against certain members, even to the extent of handing out tough punishments when they aren't necessary. For instance, I was placed on the mod queue on that site for three years over a small argument I had with a staff member on NYE 2015. Even though I had no prior incidents on the forum (or haven't since) and I apologised for my comments the next day, it did nothing to change the way in which they handled the situation.

I really dislke bashing forums that I have had a near decade and a half association with (and a mostly really positive one too), but I agree with you in regards to the daily management of that site these days. Back in earlier days there was a great mix of staff members that I had a great deal of respect for (namely one of the former Admins which still occasionally frequents the site), and while they enforced the rules they did it in a mature manner. Another thing as you touched on, the staff had a turnover once every few years or so to keep things really fresh and engaging and encouraged members to participate and possibly one day having an added responsibility with joining the the higher ranks themselves. Some of those guys have been there for close to a decade and should’ve stepped aside for newer blood a few years ago, IMO. I could go on here but I don’t think it’s appropriate so I’ll just leave it at that. As for what should be done to Popedia to increase daily activity, I’m unsure and I don’t understand why there’s very few new signups. Deleting inactive sections would be a start to remove “deadwood” I guess but that’s not a major issue as far as I can see.

This is a brilliant site with no playground mentality. The only reason I don't contribute more is because a lot of the pop culture references are way over my head due to my age. Yet I don't feel out of place here.

I noticed this too. Perhaps a lot of us are busy or losing interest? I’ve been busy (I have a job and studied for finals) but I always have a little free time on my hands. Try to make Popedia more visually appealing. Design a logo (or have users design) & choose the best one. Create new layouts or change the default layout.

I'm with @mamafrankie here (not that it's due to my age but I've never really been into most things in pop culture ) Happy to contribute where I can though

Thanks to everyone who has offered their feedback so far! I really appreciate it. This is a brilliant site with no playground mentality. The only reason I don't contribute more is because a lot of the pop culture references are way over my head due to my age. Yet I don't feel out of place here. That's understandable. Just out of curiosity, are there any topics which aren't on Popedia that you would like to talk about? I would be more than happy to have discussions about the '60s and '70s (or any decade really) if you are interested. I noticed this too. Perhaps a lot of us are busy or losing interest? I’ve been busy (I have a job and studied for finals) but I always have a little free time on my hands. Try to make Popedia more visually appealing. Design a logo (or have users design); choose the best one. Create new layouts or change the default layout. Yeah, that's what I've suspected. I'm not sure if the lack of activity has anything to do with the forum itself; I think it's just a combination of people losing interest in pop culture/generation topics and people being busy with other commitments. Thanks for sharing those ideas. Speaking of a forum design contest, we actually had one just a couple of months ago and a few people submitted some designs which could be used. The Popedia Staff are still in discussions over what design should be chosen to become the new logo.

I saw you made a special banner for the 90s section . I would like if you do the same for the other decades as it comes as a rather unfair favoritism otherwise.

Haha, it wasn't actually my intention just to make one for the 1990s. I've been meaning to make special banners for the other decades for weeks now, but I always forget about it.

I already kind of said this, but I think greater activity on the social media pages would help "advertise".
I find the Media Hub section of the forum to be pretty Australia centric, which I get, but you have to dig a little to get to the international board. I forget it's there. I don't really like how the Movie board is in a different location than the TV board, mentally they all go together for me. The organization could be streamlined a bit.
Personally I would enjoy discussing TV shows but it's always kind of dead on here. Considering generations can be kind of a niche topic, I would encourage promoting that aspect of the site more.
ETA: This may be too far outside the parameters, but a food and restaurant section could be fun? Maybe fashion and style?

I'm no active member here nor in inthe00s but the latter place seems to be where most people are and in some sense can be viewed as "competition" In which I wonder - where do we stand out? Where does the popedia forum become the popedia forum and not a smaller inthe00s To an outsider it seems the communities are awfully familiar - it would seem logical to most looking to join a community themed around what these are to join the larger one. However even then, the theme of it... perhaps it is only me, but I never can really focus on it all the time - a drifting interest perhaps. I'm not exactly sure what needs to be done here since I don't know where the site needs to go and how it should allign with what it was designed to be, but those are just my two cents.

ETA: This may be too far outside the parameters, but a food and restaurant section could be fun? Maybe fashion and style? I see what you mean. We actually had a separate board for the International section up until just a few days ago, but I decided to make it a sub-board of the Australian section (which I renamed as the "Media Hub") because it received little to no activity. I'm not sure if it's because people weren't sure what the purpose of the board was or they simply aren't interested in TV shows, however it didn't make sense to keep a board which was constantly inactive. I would be more than happy to make it a separate board again if a few people expressed their interest in it. Food and fashion/style sections would be good additions to the forum, even if they don't necessarily align with Popedia's pop culture and media focus. That doesn't really matter though. I just don't know if they would be active enough though. I'm not sure. I guess it's something that we could trial. I'm no active member here nor in inthe00s but the latter place seems to be where most people are and in some sense can be viewed as "competition" In which I wonder - where do we stand out? I appreciate the feedback. One thing that makes Popedia stand out from inthe00s, in my opinion, is the wider variety of topics; we've got a Debate board, a board based on Tourism & Travel, a Journal board and several boards based on the media. If people don't feel like talking about pop culture and the media, that's fine, but using that as an excuse not to post on Popedia is a bit of cop out. Sorry, but it just is. There are plenty of other topics for people to participate in if they had the time and/or interest. It's not as if Popedia is a niche' forum based on one type of discussion.
