Yes, definitely. I owned a couple of them. They were huge at my primary school (like most I guess! ). There were a few different colours of the ones I owned but this red Proyo II one I know I had at one stage.

Obviously I can't remember the Yo-yo fad of Late 1997/Early 1998 (as it was a year before I was born), but I remember Yo-yos were briefly a fad after a touring Yo-yo enthusiast gave a presentation at my primary school in Early 2011. After he gave a presentation in the school hall, suddenly almost every single kid in the school brought a Yo-yo to school the next day.

I remember my sister having a yo-yo in the early 00s like 2002-ish. I remember them still being used by kids in the early 00s but nowhere near on the level as Pokemon cards or Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

As mwalker96 said, I vaguely remember them being somewhat popular in the very early 2000s still. I had that red one I posted above from about 1999. I was still in to my Tamagotchi so I was a little late to this particular fad myself, as when I got this the “cool kids” were using them less by then. However, I moved on to the Pokémon games and TCG pretty early on.

Yoyos fell off a few months into 98 didn't really last that long, may have been a yoyo she had in 98 and stopped using

I don't remember Yo-yos being popular during the Early 2000s, but I was only a toddler during those years and a Yo-yo isn't something that a 3 or 4 year old would generally think about. Tamagotchis remained popular with kids until as late as 2006, if i'm not mistaken. I got my one when I was 5.

It was definitely dead by mid-late 2000 though. Pokémon and Digimon were the must-have things by this stage.

I know by 2001 Pokémon and Digimon were huge so yo-yos rapidly died somewhere during the part of 2000. I had definitely left Tamagotchis behind once Pokémon and it’s collectibles and such became really big things.

Even some of kids shows I watched from that time period advertised kids playing with yo-yo's. I guess just like how pokemon died with your age group but people my age keep it alive similar thing happen to yo-yo's to a small degree.
