www.ariacharts.com.au/charts/singles-chart"Rap Devil" has debuted here at #45. That's a pretty underwhelming chart placement when you consider the fact that it's a Top-20 hit in the US and UK. Even in New Zealand, it is at least within the Top-40. I'm not complaining though.

One of the strangest backstories to the existance of a song I've heard in a while. The producer ILoveMakonnen took unreleased material of the late Emo Rappers Lil Peep and XXXTencion, decided to mash them up and made an Alt. Rock song with it.
It's number 1 on Spotify right now. I'm glad at least something is beating Kanye's "I Love It" even though I would have prefered Eminem's "Killshot" which grew on me.

I actually don't think it sounds all that bad, to be honest, even if the song itself is pretty mundane. I can see this becoming a Top-40 hit.

This came out pretty recently. Sorry “No Tears Left to Cry”, but this is now easily my favourite song of 2018. It has a very strong late ‘60s/early ‘70s soul vibe, but my God, it’s just performed, written, and produced with so much soothing, intense passion and tops even the music it was directly inspired by. In contrast to the half-arsed, Maroon 5 dullness swallowing up most of the American pop charts today, this is a masterpiece just oozing with lavish colour.

This is the first time I have listened to the song. I would definitely have to agree with you though, it is quite a decent song. It's a shame Elle King will most likely only be remembered as the artist who released "Ex's & Oh's".

The lead single off the soundtrack to A Star is Born was released today. It's a country-rock song with vocal duties shared between Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. I actually think it's pretty good and I would even go as far as saying that it's one of the best songs of 2018. Would be great to see this become a Top-40 hit. Just as a bit of trivia, Bradley Cooper's character in the film was based off Eddie Vedder.

I was expecting his newest releases to be minor hits at best. Yep. I personally don't have much of an issue with "Shotgun" being as successful as it is. In fact, I actually think it's one of the best songs on the Top-40 charts at the moment. It's a better #1 single than "Be Alright" anyway.

I know I have briefly talked about this before, but has anyone else noticed that guitar chords have become more common in EDM/Pop releases this year? I've just finished listening to The Chainsmokers' new song and the first thing that struck me was the presence of guitar strings in the first verse. There is also a guitar solo at the end of the song. It just seems to me that music is moving in a more pop-rock/acoustic direction. When you think about it, guitars have featured in quite a lot of releases this year. Here are a few more examples: {Spoiler}
"The Middle" features guitar chords between 2:16 - 2:32.
Not to mention the fact that "Zombie", "In My Blood", "Natural" and "Falling Down" have all been Top-40 hits as well.

This week has confirmed that "Rap Devil" is well and truly a flop. It is currently now at #89 on the ARIA Chart. In fact, the song has plummeted 32 spots this week. Ouch.

SharksFan99, here's a non-Prince song to celebrate your birthyear. Meh.. Production-wise bit too generic and the lyrics a little too in-your-face (expected from Charli but still).

Is this like a new trend or something, first "2002" then "1999"..... "2008" next? Anyways I find it kind of funny because Troye Sivan was only 3/4 years old in '99 yet he's singing like he was a teenager then or something. At least Anne Marie was over 10 years old in 2002.

Brockhampton also released a bunch of songs after years ('97 to '99) a few months back: So yeah I guess it's becoming a trend to call your song after a random Y2K era year.

Yeah, the production is quite pedestrian; it stays squarely within the confined boundaries of what is to be expected on Top-40 radio. The sad thing is, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if it becomes a massive Top-10 hit.
