At this point really, with the re-election of George Bush Jr., I think the shift into the "core" '00s is complete. I believe the shift "began" in September though, with the release of American Idiot. The 1998-2004 styles of fashion were done; the Y2K thing was officially over, along with the wild hair styles and faux-futuristic get-ups ( Exhibit 1, Exhibit 2). Don't call it normcore; it was just nor mal. On that note, actually, it's interesting. Someone on inthe00s had once talked about the difference in pop culture between the '00s and '10s was an emphasis on the urban versus the suburban. Starting in fall 2004 and stretching on for the remainder of the core and late '00s, we are seeing a hard emphasis on suburban.

Tech back then was so much more simple I didn't like carrying my 3kg laptop to school everyday. Anyway, it took me a long time to come around to it, but I think late 2004 is probably my favourite period in music in my life time.

Looking some more I am noticing that the quintessential 2000’s style of makeup was already in full force, aka the full rim of black rim of eye liner. Since none of the photos are full length I’m just imagining the bootcut jeans. Was it time for Uggs yet or am I a year early?

Was it time for Uggs yet or am I a year early? around late 2004/2005 they started gaining steam so yupp. Light blue pastels and pink dominated 2004, 2004 just spear headed so many trends that became normalized for the 2000s. Since we were both living on the east coast at the time I remember it snowing pretty heavy around November boots were in full effect.
