I believe that Sweden's strategy is working - at least, that's what I heard. From whom did you hear that? Sweden's death rate is higher than the United States and the difference continues to yawn. And they are in recession and losing jobs like everyone else. Current stats: Cases: Sweden 15,322 USA 818,744 Deaths: Sweden 1,765 USA 45,318 Source www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

To be honest, either this virus needs to be contained, or everyone should be provided a face mask. If everyone gets a face mask, the lockdown can be lifted and we can all go outside being more protected from the virus. Only thing is we have to wear gloves to avoid touching contaminated surfaces. Most face masks are use-once only. You'd need a regular supply if you're going out every day. I also read about the risk of wearing gloves as opposed to washing your hands regularly. The idea is that if you're wearing gloves, they're potentially getting dirty/contaminated, then you could touch your face etc. That is true, but the face mask, you will need to wash.

Latest reports aren't very optimistic. Out of some researches apparently the body's reserve in antibodies collapses after a few weeks which would make it possible for the opportunistic virus to make the patient relapse back into illness This virus is almost out of an alien dimension according to many experts The only way this virus will be contained is if the number of active cases decrease.

The US has 45,000 deaths, and assuming a mortality rate of 0.7%, that would mean at least 6.5 million are infected. Sweden only has a population of 10 million and its unlikely that 65% of the country got sick the past month.

That could be true since the US is the fastest in getting infected with this virus.

I did some of the math, and assuming you start with just 1 infection and grow by 24% everyday (unimpeded growth - no social distancing and regular rates of handwashing) you get 6.5 million infections in just 73 days. I'm not an epidemiologist and there are a lot of other factors that I didn't take into account, but 6.5 million in 3 months (90 days) seems very much in the realm of possiblity.

It's just way too sad and depressing to see this happen to 2020. As kids, we all imagined it to be all futuristic and cool, but instead it's turning out to be the absolute worst year in our lifetimes

As kids, we all imagined it to be all futuristic and cool, but instead it's turning out to be the absolute worst year in our lifetimes To be honest, I never really cared about this year until people started hyping it up on forums in the late 2010s (way to jinx things). The true year I was looking up to when I was a kid was 2015 because of Back to the Future 2. But yeah, it's truly unfortunate to start off the decade this way. But I'm still optimistic things will pick up again in 2021 and we'd have some sense of normalcy back by then, even if it's a "new normal", and we all would be able to forget about 2020.

When I was a kid in 2000, I thought 20 years from now I'd be able to give a physical hug to my relatives abroad through the Internet somehow. Instead we have Zoom and Facebook which is actually not that much better than the technology of 2000 other than the number of connections you can make lol.

You know, it really saddens me to think how the world has panned out when compared to the positive strides society was making during the Late 2000s. I watched a report on the news a while back which was based on the carbon emission targets Kevin Rudd had set for 2020 twelve years ago and not a single one of those targets was achieved. In 2008, the "Earth Hour" movement achieved mass acceptance around the world, Barack Obama was elected as the first African American President of the United States, Kevin Rudd was the Prime Minister of Australia, interactive whiteboards were introduced to classrooms and socially-conscious films such as WALL-E were released to cinemas. People had genuine optimism for the future back then. Now look where we are, just 12 years later.

Brendan Murphy's reaction at the press conference this afternoon sums it up.

Brendan Murphy's reaction at the press conference this afternoon sums it up. I found his reaction to be quite amusing and accurate, but people are getting outraged about it. I just don't understand some people on Twitter. As for the situation in America, goodness me it looks and sounds dreadful.
