Just out of curiosity, is there some like maturity gap between 15 and 16 year olds? I know you can drive and get a job at 16, but why specifically 16? Not that I have observed. Maybe it's just due to the fact that it's closer to legal age (age 18)? But that doesn’t make sense cuz if it’s for that reason then they might as well just make it 18 (which I think they should keep it at 16)

I'd say it's purely just due to the fact that age 15 is still perceived as being "young" and not responsible enough, even if it's not necessarily the case.

I just read an article in school about whether if the driving age should be raised. Me and my class were like “Hell no!”

So then that must mean that they think there is a difference between 15 and 16 year olds?

Even though, I don't think there really is a difference at all between 15 and 16 year olds, at least from what I've observed. They can be just as mature (and immature) as each other.

I don't think there is a very big difference between 15 & 16 year olds, however 14 year olds are quite a bit less mature so obviously can't drive. It seems that 16 is an age which seems suitable as this is when you can drive, age of consent and a lot of people start getting jobs around this time.

I'm not sure what the law is like in New Zealand, but here in Australia, you can legally start working as young as 14 years and 9 months. I know a lot of people in my year group started working at places like McDonalds when they were 15 years old. You could probably make the argument that 15 year olds should be allowed to learn to drive.

Tbh I don't know what the exact law is regarding legal working age, however I just know that people starting getting jobs at around 16 so I just assumed.

Some of our laws regarding legal working and driving age are a bit strange. In Tasmania, as i'm sure EyewitnessTV would know, there are two types of Learners driver licences!

Yeah, one is shit the other is shittier I guess? I think it's pretty ridiculous that there are two types of learner licences in Tasmania. The whole point of being on your L's is so you can learn how to drive. Why does there need to be two different licences?

I vaguely remember the rule changes having something to do with years of higher than average of car accidents/and or fatalities. This was implemented to somewhat combat the issues with longer periods for learners, hence the two stages of L’s and P’s I think.

I'm almost 18 (in May) I know there is a few people my age who have been drinking since year 9 (so the age of 14/15).. Same with Recreational drugs. I don't have an issue with them doing it... Most of my grade seem quite mature and know how to handle it... I think it's a bit silly to have the age of 18 for the legal drinking age when most people are starting at 14/15 but that's just my opinion.
