After almost 5 years? You'd expect they'd at least make it into the Top 10 and with several other artists and songs, and yet MGK is just barely hanging on at #40. And it's been that way since 2018. Hell, even fall 2017 had a bigger showing for guitar music with the likes of the Foo Fighters, Neck Deep, STP, waterparks and the like, and it's only gotten lesser since then.

It is the NEW trend.

A few people are doing it, like fewer people than were in attendance to the Biden inauguration, and hardly any of them are making it into even the Top 100.

When electropop took off in 2008 only 1 song was in top 100 lol That’s simply untrue. In fall 2008, Lady Gaga along with T.I., and Katy Perry (among others) all had electropop hits in the top 40s.

I think you are under estimating the whole tik tok/emo + pop punk movement that is going on right now. The writing is on the wall where this is headed.

There's a difference though between a few Millennials simply feeling nostalgic for the music of their youth and there being an untapped demand for a return of guitar-driven music on the charts. The reason as for why artists such as Avril Lavigne, Machine Gun Kelly etc. have recently revived the early '00s pop-punk sound is because they have reached the stage in their lives where they are in a period of reflection; they're looking back at the music they grew up with as kids or teens, and they're putting their own spin on as it as they close the chapter on that stage of their lives and start a new one. This isn't uncommon for artists to do. During the early-mid 2000s, you had bands such as Jet, Wolfmother, The Vines etc. who played a modern take of '70s hard-rock and the members of those bands grew up with the music as kids.

Yeah we've been waiting and seeing for like 4 years and nothing has materialized. Sorry JT, but I really don't think it's happening.

I hope we reach the point where certain nostagia cycles exhaust themselves and catchy guitar driven rock with riffs and hooks that have much longer lasting power becomes the norm again.
Hopefully more old school style pop punk pop hits like this will come back someday it’s just hard to determine when.

I have posted over 10 examples with the other thread as well None of them have charted within the Top-40 though. MGK charted like 3 times , earlier in the year with the song with Megan Fox in the video, the second with Hate you with Haisely, and I am sure the Youngblud song charted as well.
