2017 in general was a lame as hell year except for the video games. It was like the mid-2010s but passed its expiration date. 2018/2019 had more of a unique late 2010s vibe.
I think the main thing I like about late 2017 is Camilla Cabello and Dua Lipa. I couldn't get into Cardi B and Lil Pump. Taylor Swift released a turd of an album.
Anyway the main thing I remember about 2017 is the Flat Earth Society getting global attention.

Fall 2017 is when the late '10s started to pick up.

Fall 2017 to summer 2018 was more core 2010s and lively than 2018-2019 and a bit less cringe than the very late 16 to first half of 2017. It still had more a visible balance of mid and late 2010s elements, than later years despite a reduction in mid 10s holdovers and it felt more officially late.
I think there was a slightly better vibe compared to winter 2016 to summer 2017, even if wasn't drastic there was a more settled feeling. It also still had some of that fresh new era energy at least in the beginning more so, even though it wasn't that exciting in many respects imo, that late 2018-2020 really didn't have.
While the overall period was still in midst the SJWs vs Alt right type of nonsense, when it was a new topic, which kind of sets it back, there was a sense of that zeitgeist progressively loosing steam after early 2018.

I enjoyed the Fortnite and Pubg mania during that time!
This was also my last year of being in middle school...

I was in a slight period of depression with some moments of anxiety back then. I definitely do not look fondly back on this period.
Plus it was very forgettable for pop culture in general as well, with a bland and gloomy vibe. Early 2018 was a strong improvement over that period.

Fall 2017 was when I first started college. It was exciting when I first entered it but it gets a little bit droning as time passes by.
This period was the official start of the late 2010s with more things that people can distinguish from the mid 2010s. It felt like the mid 2010s was in a form of a rotten corpse at that point.

The era of Chainsmokers, Logan Paul, Ed Sheeran and T****p inauguration 🤢 not once. I did like Switch and fidget spinners though. My song of the year would have to be Wild Thoughts by Rihanna/DJ Khaled and Attention by Charlie Puth, which was a summer hit.

I felt it was more on life support. Even now I don't think it has fully decomposed yet.

TBH I think 2017-2018 to the present should have had much more drastic pop cultural or tech changes, I distinctly remember in previous decades feeling very distinct changes towards the end of decades

I think the fall of 2017 was when we fully entered the late 2010s territory. The 2nd half was better than the 1st half of 2017. But still not as good as the years prior.
