I'm honestly not gonna be surprised if hyperpop becomes more mainstream this decade. At least it's new to the market.

Please no more 80s revival unless it’s something that wasn’t mainstream in the 80s

Please no more 80s revival unless it’s something that wasn’t mainstream in the 80s PC music isn’t exactly ‘80s revival. It’s actually more like contemporary music if contemporary music had been written by a 7-year-old in the throes of a sugar high.

That's exactly what hyperpop sounds to me lol It's also been described as a sort of vaporwave of modern music (the difference being I enjoy actual vaporwave, whereas I just hate all PC music). This song is pretty much one of the most perfect distillations of what it's like to listen to PC music: File this one under "Thanks, I hate it."

John Titor, I think you may need to update your forecast. Drill, particularly Brooklyn drill thanks to Pop Smoke (RIP), is quickly becoming one of the most popular genres of music and will likely replace trap in popularity.

Yeah I'll be honest, I'm much more inclined to believe a hip-hop based sound will define the next few years rather than a pop punk revival, just simply due to inertia.

I actually made a post about drill in my whats coming for 2020 thread, but yeah def replacing trap

I'm not convinced that we will see a significant change on the charts this year. Twelve months ago, I had the belief that we would have seen a Nevermind-style breakthrough of bedroom-pop into the mainstream towards the end of this year, but i'm having second thoughts over that now. I think alternative-pop and the '80s synthpop revival will continue to define the music of 2021. Maybe we will see some change going into 2022, but honestly, the charts are so stagnant now that i'm starting to believe that it will remain so until the pandemic is over (if it ever does end).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop-punk"Resurgence (2020s)
In 2020, Machine Gun Kelly released his fifth studio album Tickets To My Downfall, his first entirely pop punk album. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first rock album to top this chart since Tool's Fear Inoculum in September 2019.[73] The Evening Standard credited the album as "bridg[ing] the gap" between the modern pop punk scene and the mainstream interest that developed from the emo rap scene.[71] My Ex's Best Friend, a song from Tickets to My Downfall, has since peaked at number 28 on Billboard Hot 100. Because of this, a number of media outlets began crediting him with leading a pop punk revival.[74][75][76] An article by Kerrang! credited Machine Gun Kelly as well as Yungblud as bringing the genre back to mainstream attention. In addition to this, the publication cited the app TikTok as one of the key factors, as videos tagged #poppunk had received 400 million views by January 21st 2021. On the app, viral trends took place using tracks from pop punk bands like All Time Low, Simple Plan and Paramore.[77] Additionally In August 2020, producers Travis Mills and Nick Gross launched their pop punk band Girlfriends.[78] Spin writer Al Shipley described pop punk and it's new association with hip hop as 2020's "commercial juggernaut".[79]
In 2021, "Monsters" by All Time Low featuring Blackbear and Demi Lovato debuted on Billboard Hot 100 at number 88 and has since peaked at number 70. On January 8, 2021, Mod Sun and Avril Lavigne released the pop punk song Flames,[80] which charted in the top 100 in New Zealand,[81] Canada[82] and the United Kingdom.[83] During this period a number of other mainstream acts began experimenting with the genre such as Maggie Lindemann,[84] KennyHoopla[85] and Lil Huddy,[86] Hip hop musicians who also began incorporating further pop punk influences into their sound during this time, include Iann Dior,[87] 24kGoldn and Powfu.[88]"

It's Wikipedia though. Before that whole 2020 section got added by someone, it claimed that the genre had a resurgence in 2013. I don't think anyone in their mind will associate 2013 with pop punk...
And for a "resurgence" those sure are very low chart positions, especially right now with extremely scattered chart numbers. And Powfu??? Seriously? His music might be the complete opposite of pop punk if anything

His music might be the complete opposite of pop punk if anything does not matter what chart positions it is at, even tho that still is good. Too many artists are releasing pop punk or switching to pop punk to not make it a trend. Also many of these songs except PaleWaves has been trending on twitter as well. There are different metrics for measuring somethings popularity. There is so much evidence to support this lol Even Avril is going back to pop punk. MGK has performed on every major talk show (Jimmy Fallon, Kimmel etc)
and guess what else............... EMO is back as E boy / E boy girl oh and this video just came out from that fake woke song guy and it's trending right now on Twitter Not to mention the papp asking Avril how she feels about POP PUNK being back, so even
the photographer knows Pop punk is BACK in the mainstream
My case is pop punk is back and is the new trend, I have gave so many examples, artist after artist, this a case
people sticking their fingers in their ears and going lalalalal I can't see it. I can't hear it. The evidence is all there.
