2021 MUSIC WEATHER FORECAST
The current pop music climate prospects for 2021, remember it is not 2021 yet so you can not say "never going to happen" wait until the transition is complete. Music transformations are not clear until perspective is outside of it. TikTok will be very important medium to boost music to the charts and a lot of smaller artists will be discovered and hyped on the platform. Included with each trend will be the percentage is has of blowing up based on trends.
HYPER POP Hyperpop is a genre of pop music which pushes pop tropes and themes to experimental or parodic extremes. It is a fusion of 2010s pop along with PC music. TLDR MEME Music
Chance of blowing up 45%
POP PUNK
chance of blowing up 95%
Pop punk is infiltrating pop music, with sounds of the 2000s creeping in. Even if not all of these pop punk inspired songs don't chart it is the direction music is headed in. People are getting more and more angry about Politics, climate change and more and will want to express about it. Everything from Pop to trap will have some influences of it. Trap has a good year left in the tank. Expect more guitar in most trap and rap songs.
80s Synth POP + late 70s influences
chance of blowing up 99%
the 80s are being dragged in again for safe and hit making marker.

Hopefully the 2020s get an identity in 2021 distinct from the late 2010s. These trends seem exciting. the ones that have the most traction are 80s synth pop and Pop Punk right behind it, so for people asking "what will be the next music trend?" This is literally it.

I think you're wrong, but we'll see. Also, if you're right and something related to PC music actually becomes popular in the mainstream, I will give up on the human race.

Pop punk has bigger chance of blowing up ( its on the right trajectory currently) vs Hyper Pop. Hyper pop is a tricky one actually because some of it's baseline PC music is used in commercials already but... its hard to see if the GP will take it seriously. We shall see !

I have a hard time taking the pop punk "revival" seriously as well. None of them - not one - are in the Top 40s, last I checked.

I have a hard time taking the pop punk "revival" seriously as well. None of them - not one - are in the Top 40s, last I checked. When Just Dance came out it was not in the top 40 either for awhile and yet electropop took over as each month went on going into 2009. Music trends happen in like chain reactions. In 2008 there were people saying eh Gaga thats cool but it's not a trend ehhh La Roux cool but not a trend, and what happened in 2009 ? lol It became standard. Things take time to infiltrate, this year is the first time pop punk has been on the top for a long time, MGK's tickets to my downfall was there for a little bit. You cant have 1 or 2 songs that show up and have success and say nothing of it. I am also pretty sure MGK performed his pop punk song at the AMA's LIVE the other say. recent interview by Halsey www.nme.com/en_asia/news/music/halsey-says-she-really-wants-to-release-a-punk-rock-album-2814820"She recently revealed that she would love to eventually make a punk rock album, but it may be a while before fans get to hear it. Bling bling rap was big and evolved from about 1997 all the way to 2007, I can definitely see trap being around for another five years seeing as it only became really mainstream around 2014/2015.

I sure hate the third category of OP's post with burning passion. As a trend it's only just boring and derivative, even if we got Miley Cyrus the new New Wave queen out of it. Bling bling rap was big and evolved from about 1997 all the way to 2007, I can definitely see trap being around for another five years seeing as it only became really mainstream around 2014/2015. "Bling bling rap" is a vague concept though. We still went from funk-sampling boom bap beats in 1997 to more party-oriented, drum machine-driven snap beats in 2007. That's a major change still. While trap is also a bit vague genre now, it definitely has more predominant and common features.

Music needs a giant reset button to rid itself of all traces of 2000s and 2010s music

I bet my money on Hyperpop being the biggest trend of the 2020s.
