7th gen lasted as long as it did because of the recession, we were suppose to get new systems by 2010 with ps4 and xbox one I kind of like it when systems last for a long time. I'm not a fan of short lived systems, its expensive and annoying. Also I think the 2000s and early 2010s were better for gaming in a way. Downloads, indie games, experimental genres were cool for 2012-2014, when they were new and exciting, but after got super annoying, in game purchasing and souless artistic direction literally killed games. We were bitching about it in 2008 but shit hit the fan in the mid 2010s. I barely pay attention to new games, they lack soul to me personally. I've never paid for in game stuff ever. I can't imagine games without cds. I honestly thought 7th Gen wasn't going to ever end. Usually PC gaming was a few years ahead of console gaming but in 2013 there was still no game better looking than Crysis (2007). The hardware bump just wasn't there. (Although now I realize you can do other things with better hardware such as larger maps)

2011 could definitely pass as the last year with some 2000s influences. That year still had a fair bit of late 2000s fashion, haircuts, aesthetics, slang and technology going around. I always saw 2012 as the first year fully divorced from the 2000s.

I guess I can see some late 00s traces in the first half of 2011 but I don’t really think I’ve seen stereotypical late 00s things in the 4th quarter of 2011(Oct-Dec) that much.

I saw this confusion happen in some 2009 threads where pictures were posted and people said YUPP CLASSIC 2000s 100% but they were being mistaken by some of the old left over fashions and not the general mood/recession that was going on. That is why I always include Music at the end of my atmosphere threads to get the FULL picture.

I mean there are elements of late 00s in early 2011 such as scene hairstyles but there are also a decent amount of women who are fashion forward such as scarves around necks, skinny jeans and boots. A decent amount of people still owned slider phones and keyboard phones. Late 2011 was the first period to have a completely 2010s vibe with 00s traces barely noticeable IMO.

2010, maybe 2011, is the last year I can see visibly passing for the (late) 2000s with the technology and the cars being driven on the road still being mainly late 90s and early 2000s models (unless you live in a super rich area). By 2012 or even like late 2011, nope.

There were elements lasting all the way up to 2013, but I agree with the majority that 2011 was the last year that ACTUALLY felt like the 2000s still.

I will say 2010 as a whole but the 1st half-July of 2011 had some minor 00s influences. By the time August(the start of the 2011-12 school year)hit, the 2000s influence was almost entirely all gone.

It's pretty much impossible for the second half of 2011 to pass as late 00s since the early 2010s were the overwhelming majority of the culture. Even the first half, the 00s influence was minor.

I don't really see the 2000s in 2011 either. I remember everyone wearing yoga pants and hipsters were everywhere. My co-worker who had tattoos all up her arm and roses in her hair tell me "It was just announced on Twitter, Hosni Mubarak stepped down as president of Egypt" and she put her phone up to my face. I joked "Wow, the revolution was live-tweeted". That was in January 2011, it had the 2010s oozing from every pore lol.

Yeah, the "2000s" fashion you see in 2011 are people who don't really care for the latest trends and like to dress for comfort. For those who do follow trends, the latest fashion trends of 2011 leans very 2010s. A lot of girls wore skinny jeans, boots, cardigans, extremely loose t -shirts, and scarves around the necks. The boys wore those striped tank tops and snapbacks. It all depends on location, my area loves the latest trends. I do see a lot of slider phones in 2011 though, I guess that's one of the late 00s leftovers of 2011. You can't really confuse 2011 with the 2000s.

2011 felt nothing like the 2000s, how is this even stretched lol
Yes there was some people hanging on to 2000s fashions, but we were in a smartphone/hipster/ Occupy Wallstreet/Game of Thrones /ipad world by that point. Despite some people wearing outdated late 2000s fashion the atmosphere felt completely different. even TV felt diffrent.
Maybe if you are comparing Late 2008 and all of 2009 to 2011 but............ does that really count that much......... and when I say "2000s" you know exactly what I mean 2001 - 2006/2007

To be fair the thread title does say "late 2000s". It's still confusing though what is meant by that. I mean, if we're including December 31, 2009 then I could see how people think 2011-2013 are similar. If we're talking about similar to 2006/2007 though then that's a completely different question. I think it would be helpful if people specified which part of the late 2000s they think 2011-2013 are similar to.

God you guys sure love to completely derail an original statement
How in the world "there were some late 2000s holdovers in 2011" (which there was, plenty even) was interpreted as "2011 was a 2000s year culturally!!!!" is just beyond me.

I didn't interpret as you saying it was a culturally 2000s year. I agree that there was some holdovers from the late 00s, but they were more present and felt in the early part. The late part barely had any late 2000s traces. I just felt like we were divorced from the 2000s around the last third of 2011. And yea, the thread title is asking what 2010s year passes as late 00s, not the last year with traces of 2000s lol.
