I think 2019 is a year that will one day be reevaluated in a very positive light, especially with it being the last year of the 2010s and the year right before the pandemic began. I'm watching Joker at the moment, one of the best films of the entire decade IMO, and I can't help but think about how such a generation-defining movie will help shape public opinion of the year over time. Of course, it is far too early for that to occur now; the end of 2019 was only 13 months ago, despite everything that has happened in the world since. However, in 5, 10 or 20 years time, I can definitely see people longing for the pre-pandemic days of 2019 and truly appreciating the movies, music and TV shows that were released that year. It actually has a lot to offer.
Music:
Overall, 2019 was a huge improvement and a step in the right decision over the soulless, repetitive SoundCloud garbage that dominated 2016-2018, and I would actually consider it to be one of my favourite years for music of the decade. The charts had actually showed signs of diversifying for the first in years, with genres ranging from alt-pop, pop-rock, country, trap and even bubblegum-pop (*cough Taylor Swift's collab with Brendon Urie). I actually liked quite a few of the songs that received radio airplay (such as the ones above) and charted within the Top-40, and the underground offered a lot of good releases too.
Movies:
Admittedly, I still haven't got around to watching some of the movies from 2019 which I have an interest in seeing, such as "Avengers : Endgame" or even "Toy Story 4". However, 2019 was still a good year for new movies across the board (although 2018 was stronger IMO) and I enjoy "Joker", "Yesterday" and "Jumanji: Next Level", among others. Like I mentioned in my first paragraph, I would legitimately consider the "Joker" to be one of the best films of the 2010s, its such a dark, but realistic film. It's definitely one of the highlights of 2019 out of all the releases the came out that year.
My personal life in 2019 wasn't too bad either. I turned 20 that year, and the milestone gave me the sense that it was truly the beginning of my early adulthood, the start 'of a new chapter' in a sense. By then, I had learnt not to take offence over the littlest of things. I felt more confident within myself, with who I am as a person, and I had overcome the feelings I had that were associated with puberty and going through my teens. I also started to go on solo holiday trips too, which felt like a big deal for me as I travelled hours away from home and went to places that I had never previously been to. So I do look back on 2019 with fondness.
