Interesting to see you say only the last half of 2001 was good cause that's when 9/11 happened 2001 was full of lame long in the tooth fads such as razr scooter and brain dead teen pop until we hit the Spring, when fall came along - Yugioh Mania was in full force - Gameboy Advance (which came out in the summer) had been fully established - Teen pop was pretty much over ( Britney Spears changed her gimmick up) Neptunes influence on everyone - Pop Punk was now the standard & used in movies like American Pie 2 ( Sum 41, Jimmy eat world etc) - Michelle Branch & Shakira both made their debuts - XBOX & Nintendo Gamecube debut, kicking off the 6th generation of video games fully - DVD mania - release of GTA 3, Max Payne, Metal Gear solid 2, as well as HALO & Final Fantasy X - Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings debut at the Cinema and make a SMASH - Return of MJ to the NBA that is why, a complete different contrast from how the year started, and yes 9/11 did suck but when we got to the end of 2001 the brain dead long in the tooth gimmicks were gone and we got an exciting pop culture atmosphere. I know there are others here that before the last few months of 2001 as well. It was super exciting. I can't give the start of 2001 a full A+ sadly because of how long in the tooth it was, but the end kind of made up for it (if you ignore 9/11)

2017 was similar 2 2001 in the sense that the 1st 1/2 of 2017 was long in the tooth with core/mid 2010s influences played out. Neo mid 2010s 2013-2016 teen pop lingered in the 1st 1/2 of 2017 which was gone by the 2nd 1/2 of 2017. Trap & emo rap took over the charts. Late 2017 felt adult. I remember the surreal feeling of Trump being president. The 2nd 1/2 of 2017 was when the core/mid 2010s were dead, but the influences lingered until late 2018. The late 2010s were in full swing by the 2nd 1/2 of 2017. I wasn’t a fan of 2017 due 2 my personal life sucking that year. 2017 was darker than 2016 & 2018-2019 imo. 2017 was a weird year

The first-half of 2009.
Turned 10, went on a holiday up north, electropop still hadn't completely taken over the charts yet, my Dad was still living at his own house etc. Early 2009 was also still culturally late 2000s, which is something I liked/like about it as well.

I think i'll join in on the fun. There are a lot of years which I could choose to do, however I will stick to the years which I can vividly remember. Pop-culture2000s:2003 (second-half) 2004 (first-half) 2005 (first-half) 2006 (second-half) 2007 (second-half) 2008 (first-half) 2009 (first-half) The second-half of 2003 blows the first-half completely out of the water IMO. Admittedly, it's probably partly due to the fact that my memories of mid-late 2003 are stronger than those from the early part of the year, but the pop culture from the second-half is hugely sentimental for me and I feel a much stronger attachment to it. Late 2005/Early 2006 was a low point for pop culture as a whole. I absolutely love the period from about early 2007 to mid 2008, that is undoubtedly my favourite part of my childhood in terms of both my personal life and the pop culture trends. Unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer early 2009 over the other parts of the year for various reasons. 2010s:2010 (second-half) 2011 (first-half) 2012 (second-half) 2013 (second-half) 2014 (second-half) 2015 (first-half) 2016 (first-half) 2017 (second-half) 2018 (first-half) 2019 (first-half) I generally liked the direction music was heading in towards the end of 2010 and the release of the iPad seemed revolutionary at the time, which is why I prefer it over the first-half. Mid-late 2013 was better as pop culture had largely shed off its early 2010s influences and I have always preferred the mid 2010s as a cultural era. In all honesty, 2016 just wasn't a good year in general. I went for the first-half as it predated Trump being voted into office and mumble-rap becoming a dominant force on the charts. 2020s:2020 (second-half) 2021 (To Be Determined )
