Which school year would be considered to be the last true core 2010s vibe?
It's a tough choice but I'll go with 2016-17.

2018-2019 2019 was SUCH a finale year, like, just look at everything that ended this year. Even BEFORE COVID-19 you could feel a shift in pop culture.

I believe 2016-2017 was the last core 2010s school year because Obama was president for half that school year. I admit core 2010s aspects lingered through the 2017-2018 school year, but a bunch of them died in the 2018-2019 school year. I think 2019-2020 school year was mostly or completely devoid of core 2010s influences. Many 2010s franchised ended in 2019. However shows associated more with the 2010s ended in 2020 or ending in 2021. IDK I think Game Of Thrones is like the QUINTESSENTIAL 2010s show. Something like Stranger Things is more late 2010s. Game of Thrones was popular throughout the ENTIRE decade. To me, it ending, plus Avengers: Endgame made it clear the 2010s culture had ended. COVID-19 was the final nail in the coffin, but even late 2019 already felt like the 2010s were ending.

Yes Game Thrones is the quintessential 2010s show. It began in spring 2011 and lasted through spring 2019. I remember Avengers: Endgame being seen as the end of an era. I mean it has “end” in it. 2010s shows and franchises beginning to end is the first nail in the coffin of 2010s culture. COVID 19 is the second nail in the coffin of 2010s culture. I do not believe that completely ended 2010s culture in 2020. Politically 2020 is late 2010s as that was Trump’s final year in office. Gaming wise 2020 is also 2010s as the PS5 did not come out until that November, so PS4 is king in 2020. I believe PS5 release, Biden getting elected and sworn in as president are the final nail in the coffin of 2010s culture. I predict by late or fall 2021, we will be in the early 2020s culturally. I see spring 2019-winter 2019/2020 as a transition from late 2010s to early 2020s or what the early 2020s could have been if not for COVID 19, but looks more late 2010s. I see spring 2020-now as a transition that does not lean 2010s or 2020s yet. I think 2020s culture is already here with the PS5 and Xbox Series X, plus president Biden. IMO 2011-2012 was the first 100% 2010s school year with the official release of Minecraft and Game of Thrones blowing up. Everything from 2011 to 2018 was core 2010s IMO, although IMO 2014 is, like, the ABSOLUTE peak of 2010s culture with Game of Thrones peaking in season 4, Vine exploding in popularity, Minecraft YouTubers like SkyDoesMinecraft and PopularMMOs being huge, the lets play explosion, Gamergate, Five Nights at Freddys, the first real year of 8th gen gaming, release of the Amazon Echo, and EDM trap. IMO 2014-2015 is the most 2010s school year possible, with no 2000s influences, and no Trump era influence either.

I said in 2018 that pop punk was going to be all over the radio but it would take 2 and a half years to make the move, and look what we have with MGK, Olivia, Willow Smith and you are starting to get pop punk music in random commercials on Tv now. if you want a hint of next school years trends click this link, I worked for E! news for several years going into what the next year would hold for pop culture. popedia.boards.net/thread/4864/fall-2021-summer-atmosphere-forecast

2018-2019 doesn't seem core 2010s even though it has some leftovers, but it's sorta like the twilight of the 2010s. 2017-18 is debatable though but 2016-17 is surely part of the core decade.

Easily 2017-18. 2016-17 seems a bit early as a lot of core elements hung around after that. Honestly at this point I consider Trump to be an element of the core 2010s as he was relevant for the entire second half of the decade and is no longer prevalent in 2021, so him being president doesn’t end the core 2010s for me. Fortnite, Trump, #MeToo, March for our Lives, emo/SoundCloud rap, Travis Scott, Cardi B, etc. were all popular in the 2017-18 school year and are staples of the late 2010s. Those are core aspects of the late 2010s and core 2010s overall imo

IMO 2014-2015 is the most 2010s school year possible, with no 2000s influences, and no Trump era influence either. Yeah 2011-2012 school year was when I really felt like we were in the 2010s especially with the Iraq War ending. It felt solidly early 2010s, maybe even peak early 2010s. 2011-2012 had a more established 2010s vibe compared to 2010-2011. 2011-2012 is the first classic 2010s year with 2015-2016 being the last classic 2010s year. I too see 2014 as the absolute peak of 2010s culture. By 2014 we were firmly within 8th generation gaming and 6th generation consoles like the PS2 are dead. 2014-2015 is the most 2010 school year and peak mid 2010s. It barely has any early 2010s influences that 2013-2014 has and late 2010s influences that 2015-2016 has. Although 2013-2014 is the last school year before politics got divisive and heated. That is the last time when someone can speak their mind, before Alt. Right vs SJW war and political correctness got out of control. I guess it is debatable if 2014-2015 has Trump influence or not. It is the last school year we did not have to hear about Trump. People saw him as a reality show host and him becoming president seemed laughable. Republicans winning in the November 2014 midterms led to Trump’s victory in November 2016. You make some great points and I pretty much stand by them. I am starting to think that the 2010s have two parts instead of three, early and late. I do not think the 2010s have a mid part as it was a transition societally. I am starting to see the 2010s this way: Fall 2009-Summer 2014: Early 2010s 2010-2013: Peak 2011-2012 Quintessential Years Fall 2014-Spring 2015: Transition Summer 2015-Winter 2019/2020: Late 2010s 2016-2019: Peak 2017-2018: Quintessential Years Spring 2020-now: Late 2010s-Early 2020s Transition So maybe the core 2010s are 2011-2018 if the 2010s are looked at that way. 2010s culture flows differently than 2000s culture. I see the core 2000s as 2003 (early 2000s) - 2007 (late 2000s) with 2004-2006 (mid 2000s) being peak years. IMO Peak Early 2010s school year: 2011-12 Peak Mid 2010s school year: 2014-15 Peak Late 2010s school year: 2017-18

IMO Peak Early 2010s school year: 2011-12 Peak Mid 2010s school year: 2014-15 Peak Late 2010s school year: 2017-18 2017-2018 makes sense for peak late 2010s as that was the first full year of Trump presidency, Nintendo Switch and most 2010s shows were still airing. 2018-2019 cannot be peak late 2010s because 2019 was when 2010s franchises started to end. Honestly 2011 as a full year peaked early 2010s culture and 2018 as a full year peaked late 2010s culture. The second half of 2014 through the first half of 2015 was peak mid 2010s or the 2014-2015 school year as you put it.

I really don’t think Trump’s presidency ended the core 2010’s, especially since he was only president for one year of the 2020’s.

Yeah going forward, Trump will just be associated with the 2010s imo, he dominated politics between 2015-2019 and the one year he was president in the 2020s doesn't really count. Just like how no one associates Clinton with the 2000s, despite still being President for the year 2000. Anyways, imo October 2017 - Mid 2018 is an awkward era, not core 2010s, but also not the Tiktok Billie Eilish era like 2019-present.

2018-2019. Proximity to the numerical 20s doesn't mean it isn't culturally core 10s. It still had a very strong 10s identity and you had so many core 10s products like avengers and game of thrones more popular than they have ever been.
