I dunno just feels that by November 2014 the mid 2010s lost some of its luster and started having a more subdued aesthetic while transitioning to mid 2015 to 2016, and slowly incorporating some of the second half vibes associated with those years.
I would say spring-summer 2013 to the start of fall 2014 feels a bit different and more consistent, even though both periods are still overall mid 2010s.
October/November 2014 to Feb/March 2015 feels like a transition to Spring/Summer 2015 to 2016/very early 2017 at most.
Your thoughts?

There are aesthetics that felt like they are heading towards the late 2015 - winter 2016/17 era. A lot of minimal black, grey, and white These are examples from Tumblr I got.

Your not the only one slashpop. The last 2 or 3 months of 2014 did felt different from January/February '14. While mid-late 2013 established the 2010s identity, the later half of 2014 was where the culture were 100% 2010s. Not even a dash of late 2000s influences.

You are not alone in that realization. I agree with your analysis. You makes sense and you make great points. I began 11th grade in the latter half of 2014 and I noticed the vibe change from lighthearted and carefree to dark and sinister.
Late 2010s influences are creeping in overshadowing minimal early 2010s influences during the second half of 2014. I think Trump became more certain about running for president around that time, making it official on June 16, 2015.
The first half of 2014 had many early 2010s vibes, associations in music, fashion, movies, design, aesthetics, gaming and TV, etc, despite being mid 2010s culturally. Politics is chill, “live and let live” during that time. I remember the early half of 2014 being strongly connected to 2010-2012 and the latter part of 2014 not so much. In the first half of 2014, we are recovering from the Great Recession with gas prices being close to $4. Culture from the early half of 2014 would be out of place in 2016. First half of 2014 is half early 2010s politically, fully early 2010s economically and mid 2010s culturally.
2014 is closer overall to 2012 than 2016. Life in 2014 is mostly more easygoing and laidback compared to 2016.
In the second half of 2014, politics becomes toxic, polarizing and SJW vs Alt. Right war becomes more noticeable which is when we are fully in the mid 2010s politically. Gas prices drops close to $2. We finally recover from the Great Recession with unemployment levels dropping to 2006 levels, so by then we entered the mid 2010s economically. Some or most late 2014 culture stuck around until 2017. I remember thinking from 2016 to early 2017 that some late 2014 songs would not sound out of place then. The latter half of 2014 screams more mid 2010s and is more “in your face” than the earlier half.
Early and late 2014 kind of feel worlds apart atmosphere and vibe wise. In October to December 2014, I remember thinking January to March 2014 feel ages ago.
I believe we are firmly in a mid 2010s world by the second half of 2014. I think the latter half of 2014 to the early half of 2015 is peak mid 2010s.
I see the mid 2010s as: Spring 2013-Summer 2014: Early Mid 2010s Fall 2014-Spring 2015: Peak Mid 2010s Summer 2015-Winter 2016/2017: Late Mid 2010s
If the mid 2010s did not exist as an era, then I’d see the 2010s like this: Early 2010s: Fall 2009 to Summer 2014 Peak: 2010 to 2013 Quintessential Years: 2011 to 2012
Transition: Fall 2014 to Winter 2014/2015
Late 2010s: Spring 2015 to Winter 2019/2020 Peak: 2016 to 2019 Quintessential Year: 2017 to 2018
COVID: Spring 2020 to present

I know exactly what you are talking about, it got darker and muted ( it really did from a fashion stand point) but also a pop culture stand point as well We should come up with a name for the period Probably the dancehall/tropical house era?

Even the staleness in on the same page as 15-16. 2013-2014 is culturally mid 2010s, but it is more early 2010s in spirit. 2013-2014 is incomplete mid 2010s, like 60-80%. Many songs from all genres can fit in with the early 2010s. Ariana Grande’s “Break Free,” recorded in 2014, sounds like a 2010 or 2011 song. I think that song charted number 1. Electro-pop has its final hurrah. Streaming is not big and does not overtake cable TV subscriptions, although it is catching on. Seeing some people without smartphones is not weird. DVD holds on. 2013-2014 is maybe the last gasp of physical media or analog technology, even if that is dying since the mid 2000s. Skeuomorphic designs hangs around. Minuscule late 2000s influences linger. Instagram and Snapchat are rising, but they are not as huge as the following year. Playing 7th generation gaming consoles like the PS3 are common, despite the PS4 being out. Facebook is cool. Theaters continue the cheesy 3D glass craze of the early 2010s. Mid 2010s fashion does not fully come into their own until the second half of 2014. 2013-2014 is semi-dated. 2014-2015 is the epicenter of the 2010s, but the culture from then leans more towards the late 2010s. 8th generation gaming enters full swing. Streaming explodes, coining “Netflix n’ Chill,” which sounds cringe imo. Instagram and Snapchat blow up. DVD’s and analog technology are dead. Nearly everyone has smartphones. Facebook is lame. Flat design dominates. No more skeuomorphism design. Late 2000s influences are dead. Electropop is dead. No more corny 3D movie glasses used in theaters. 2014-2015 is a cusp between semi-dated and recent. Periods with late decade influences: 1970s: late 1974-mid 1984 1980s: late 1984-mid 1994 1990s: late 1994-mid 2004 2000s: late 2004-mid 2014 2010s: late 2014-now

We should also build a list of all things that changed then. I fully agreed with the period with late decade influences. The fact is the end part of 4th year of these decades tend have more in common with latter years than the former years. Late 1974-1975 has more in common with 1977-1979 than 1970-1973. Late 1984 has more in common with 87/1988 than 1982 Late 1994 has more in common with 1996-1997 than 1991 Late 2004 has more in common with 2007 than 2002. Late 2014 has more in common with 2018 than 2010 or 2012.

I agree with the statements above. Early 2014 (January-April) leans more so towards the later half early 2010s (Late 2011-2013). Mid 2014 (May-July) leans neither. The rest of 2014 (August-December) leans towards the late 2010s.
