With there being a bit of hype surrounding rock music at the moment, I thought it would be interesting to create a topic and take a closer look at just how many rock songs have made it onto the charts since the start of this decade. I made a similar topic based on the 2010s about a year ago, however, I didn't actually include any of the chart positions or even all of the rock songs that made it onto the charts, for that matter. Since this decade is still so fresh in the grand scheme of things, I think it's best to do it now before there inevitable becomes too many variations between song placements. So here's a list of songs that have charted within the Top-50 on the Billboard, UK, and ARIA Charts since the start of 2020: 2020* "My Ex's Best Friend" - Machine Gun Kelly ( US #20, AUS #22, UK #30) * "Bloody Valentine" - Machine Gun Kelly ( US #50) * "Mood" - 24KGoldn ft. Iann Dior ( US #1, UK #1, AUS #1) * "Obey" - Bring Me The Horizon ft. Yungblud ( UK #37) * "Golden" - Harry Styles ( UK #26, AUS #39) 2020 was a pretty abysmal year for rock music across the board. Besides the Covid-19 lockdowns, January-August was essentially one long drought period; not a single rock song charted during this period on any of the three charts. It was arguably the worst rock had performed on the Top-40 charts since circa. 2011. However, the release of Machine Gun Kelly's Tickets to my Downfall spurred somewhat of a small revival of rock in the mainstream, and songs such as "Obey", "Golden" and "My Ex's Best Friend" charted quite high on towards the back end of the year. I was half considering including "Come & Go" by Juice WRLD into this list as well, however, I personally consider it to be more of an emo-rap song rather than an outright rock song. 2021* "Good 4 U" - Olivia Rodrigo ( US #1, UK #1, AUS #1) * "Jealousy, Jealousy" - Olivia Rodrigo ( AUS #22, US #24) * "Without You" - The Kid Laroi ( AUS #1, UK #2, US #8) * "Beggin'" - Maneskin ( UK #10, AUS #22) * "I Wanna Be Your Slave" - Maneskin ( UK #6) * "Zitti e buoni" - Maneskin ( UK #17) * "The Angel of 8th Ave." - Gang of Youths ( AUS #48) * "Transparent Soul" - Willow Smith ( UK #28) 2021 is so far shaping up to be a really good year for the genre. Maneskin currently have two songs charting within the Top-10 Global Spotify chart, and what's so impressive about that is the fact that they didn't even perform them at this year's Eurovision! "Good 4 U" has become a chart-topping smash hit in many countries around the world and will likely finish up as one of the best-selling singles of the year.
