A twin year is basically a year that is very similar to a previous year, often a notoriously impactful year. Many of the events that happen in the year are a result of what happened in the previous year, and with a similar vibe and trends. Some examples: 2001-2002 (9/11 and its lingering effects, LOTR and Chris Columbus-era Harry Potter) 2008-2009 (Obama’s election and the recession, Electropop, Phineas and Ferb and Total Drama being popular, even the commercials from these two years are similar) 2016-2017 (Trump’s election, terrorist attacks, peak of alt-right/SJW conflict, and mumble rap) 2020-2021 (COVID, George Floyd protests, a general uncomfortable vibe, and lingering effects)

I sort of agree. I always say 2001 and 2002 are alike, despite the Y2K era dying down from spring through summer 2001. Despite Y2K giving way to the early 2000s in fall 2001, the music, fashion, movies, games, culture from 2001 and 2002 are indistinguishable. 2001 and 2002 are more related to each other than 2002 and 2003 are. Other years I think are identical are 1999-2000, 2004-2005, 2007-2008, 2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2013-2014, 2015-2016, and 2017-2018. 2020-2021 is debatable. I think 2020 should be quarantined. Depending on how 2022 turns out, I might be inclined to go with 2021-2022. I predict 2022 to be a continuation of fall 2021. The years that I did not pair up are 2003, 2006, 2019, which may be transitional years.

Technically Avatar and Angry Birds came out in 2009 but they are really more 2010 trends 2010 felt very different with all the electro house, dubstep, Adventure Time, bronies, Windows 7 being everywhere, the rise of hipsters, etc.

2016-2017 were peak alt-right/SJW years LMAO. That’s why I voted them as twin years TOXIC af lmao. Might as well through 2015 into the mix LOL because 2015 had all those things from the start. 2015 still had an optimistic vibe though, especially with gay marriage being fully legalized in the US. 2016-2017 was PEAK toxicity with cringe AND alt-right culture at its peak, plus everyone complaining about feminists and SJWs during this time like never before, as well as the Trump election. This video is a perfect summary of this era IMO

Here’s what I mean by 2008 and 2009 being twin years, even the commercials feel similar

Unpopular opinion, but 2021 actually doesn’t feel like 2020. Biden is now president, more and more places are abandoning mask requirements (I don’t even have to wear a mask anymore) and places are now allowing crowds. Every single person that I know in the C/O 2021 all had a completely normal graduation with no masks required. 2021 has a more optimistic feel to it, and it genuinely feels like we are finally getting past the Trump politics era.

2011-2012 just seems mostly identical to me.

Years that is identical to me are the following
Mid 1999-Mid 2000 2005-2006 2007-2008 2010-2011 2015-2016

These are personally mine
1988-1989 1994-1995 1999-2000 2005-2006 2011-2012 2013-2014 2017-2018
I feel like years like 2019 or 2020 are by themselves because 2019 was pre-covid yet had oncoming 2020s culture which makes it a stick in the mud. Meanwhile 2020 is all about COVID and nothing more. This is why I don’t pair it with 2021 since we are slowly becoming better with the whole virus situation with providing vaccines and the booster shots that will be given later in the year.

2017-2018 and 2014-2015 are very similar years as well.

ItsMichael mc98 2014 was the start of Cold War II (Crimean Annexation) and when ISIS became a major threat. It was also the start of gamergate, BLM protests escalated following Ferguson, and the GOP winning back full control of Congress was a sign of things to come regarding the political climate. 2014's twin year is better suited as 2015, not 2013.

Yeah 2020 was the culmination of the late 2010s and 2021 is the transition out that
