I think that's more due to how recent it is.
I personally am not nostalgic about any year after 2012, when woke culture first emerged and the Edward Snowden incident pretty much killed techno-optimism for good.

2015 in retrospect definitely had this pre-Trump progressive Tumblr aesthetic with Steven Universe, Undertale, Inside Out, and LGBT being legalized. This was an era where it was OK to be sensitive (again, look at Inside Out or Undertale), and there was this general fascination with feminine/LGBT ideals. Cute aesthetics were very popular during this era.
Of course, depending on who you ask, you either love, or hate this aesthetic.
