2015 will end up like 1999 or 2007, an optimistic HAPPY time before everything went downhill. The last Obama-era year before Trump won the election, and the progressive vibe of the first half of the tens hit their peak. amp.theage.com.au/national/victoria/15-of-the-best-things-that-happened-in-2015-20151229-glw2hi.html

Honestly, the entirety of the 2010s will be considered very nostalgic because it happened right before the coronarmageddon and there were no global economic crisis or recessions like in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 2020s

Hell, it already is for many people as “the days before COVID ruined everything”

Even though the 2010s were quite tumultuous, I actually agree for one reason and one reason why, and that is the fact we have more pop culture now than ever. Just a game like Minecraft can create millions of memories. Combined with the growing connectiveness of everything and the fact everyone has a camera in their pocket means certain periods of one’s life can be more easily preserved

Feel free to enjoy this year if you see it differently.
Personally if anything to me it would be 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014 because these years weren’t tainted with commonalities with the Trump era, growing SJW culture and or subdued vibes like 2015. Plus they were peak 2010s spirit and more original for what they were even if they are largely cringe. Even late 2014-2015 is more of a transition, I can’t see it being iconic but it could pass in a way.
Late 2009- mid 2011 is more authentic but might too basic or meh for people or even more interesting in the future and 2016-2020 is too negative and less unique/more derivative. 2015 is mix of both worlds, it does get credit for that and being much less politically toxic with little Trump influence but is leaning more towards the real full 2016- very early 2017 vibe in spirit outside of politics. Mid 15 to late 16/start of 2017 is one era imo that felt like second half of the mid 2010s leading up to trunp in power and toning down or modifying everything from 2011-2014 while losing some of the excitement and energy of those years.

2015 and 2019 are the "before everything went to shit" years of the 2010s.
I personally like 2019 better when it comes to pop culture.

2015 had incoming elements of what the late 2010s will be and also the optimist spirit from the early 2010s was still alive. I don’t care what anyone says, 2015 is no longer recent anymore.

You're right, the first songs I think about when I think of 2015 are "Watch Me Whip", "Trap Queen" and "Lean On". So musically it isn't recent either lol. (Unless you think "Trap Queen" sounds recent just because it's a trap song, which it doesn't at all. Just imagine it charting in 2021, it couldn't lol.)

But i agree 2015 is a golden year like '99 and o7 07 not a golden year lol 2007 was a total nothing burger. Jan - August was a lamer version of late 2006 it doesn’t deserve to be called 07. Fall/winter 07 was like a super weak preview of 2008-early 09.

Oh definitely. Everyone was obsessed with Vine, which doesn’t even exist anymore. It’s merely dated now, not retro like 2009 and prior.
