I hope turning red flops for all the things it got wrong about 2002
U ARE ON CRACK if you think Tamagotchi's from 1997 were SUPER SUPER popular in 2002

Inside Out was the last Pixar movie to feel like a Pixar movie, since then we had garbage like "The Good Dinosaur" (huge wasted potential with that one) Cars 3, unnecessary sequels and spin-offs like Finding Dory (ugh) Toy Story 4 and The Incredibles 2, and Coco... That was basically a Disney movie, not a Pixar movie Even then, at least when it came to 2010s Pixar, Inside Out was the exception, rather than the rule. Cause before that you had Monsters University, Brave (which also feels more Disney than Pixar), and the worst Pixar movie of all: Cars 2. The only other Pixar movie that I can say I truly loved from that decade would be Toy Story 3, which feels more like a 2000s Pixar movie TBH. Yeah, Toy Story 3 was such a perfect finale for the series But (Disney)Pixar(Disney) had to ruin it with an unnecessary reboot, and they'll keep rebooting it, Toy Story it's Pixar's Mickey Mouse Also, oh God, have you seen the trailer for that Buzz lightyear spinoff? Another cash grab shit spinoff movie 😐 it legit looks like a DreamWorks movie, c'mon Pixar's reputation is being run into the ground by Disney, it's pitiful. They had such a spotless streak (even after Cars 1)

It started off well, we even thought we were going to see a 2D revival after the release of The Princess and the Frog, but then went downhill fast. So many movies feel generic and uninspired, obnoxious, like they're built only for kids and not to tell a good story. Illumination is the worst offender when it comes to studios, and as for individual movies: Minions, The Boss Baby, and the worst offender of them all, The Emoji Movie. There was the occasional gem here and there, like Inside Out and Spider-Verse, but otherwise, it felt so unoriginal. Honestly I think the 2010s were a better decade for animated TV than it was animated movies.

Turning Red is shaping up to be Pixar's biggest hit movie since Coco, at least "Turning Red" seems to be having a cultural impact, unlike Soul and Onward (no one gave a shit about these two, and you can't blame JUST Covid for that) Don't get me wrong, Turning Red is still gonna flop in the box office, but at least people are talking about it It just seems like people don't give a shit about Pixar movies anymore lol, it's not a selling point anymore I saw quite a few people talking about Soul, it won the Oscar for best Animated Feature. And it was a great movie IMO. Onward...yeah, you're right about that one. It was OK, but not great. Maybe Lightyear will get more attention. After all, it IS based off the Toy Story franchise. It's kinda sad that Pixar's golden age from the early-mid 2000s has ended honestly. When Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Cars were the biggest things in the world. Late 2000s weren't? Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up? Those were masterpieces

or 2000. At least that would make more sense since that year has tons of late 90s hangovers. Tbf, 2002 had one last boy band hit, although it heavily leans early 2000s R&B with Neptunes production. Yeah that's what I noticed about the later boy band songs, even aesthetically they had had moved on from the cutesy late 90's thing and were being marketed as more adult. Pretty much opposite from this movie. Does anyone remember Boys in Motion from That's so Raven? I also remember a boy band in Kim Possible. At least in the latter, I remember part of the joke was related to some of the characters finding it lame to be a fan of a boy band. I'll look it up some time but I'm guessing this was from around 2004? Even Disney shows at the time had recognized they had gotten very cheesy.

Those were masterpieces True, but I think the early-mid 00s Pixar films had more of an impact on general pop culture. I mean, Finding Nemo was only like, the second highest grossing film behind Return of the King and the best-selling DVD of all time. That was pretty much the peak of Pixar’s popularity. That said, I definitely like the movies you mentioned. WALL-E especially is one of my favorite animated movies of all time.

I actually spoke to someone at Jive Records about this basically their artists NSYNC, Britney were in panic mode because teen pop was starting to get long in the tooth in late 2000 and Jive opted for a few tracks of each new album to be half teen pop and half mature, even employing the Neptunes to handle most of the work for both albums, Jive was worried that a teen pop song would bomb in the coming months due to fatigue. It got so bad that Nelly was added onto the Nsync's Girlfriend song for radio air play out of fear. The music video below became the main video MTV and MTV 2 would play in the morning instead of the other one.
