^^^ Depends on what you mean by "hit." I don't think there has been any EDM popular enough to get airplay on an iHeartRadio Top 40 station since 2019. However, dance stations like BPM on SiriusXM have been leaning into deep bass house lately.
I used to really like Marshmellow, but he has followed Tiesto's lead into collaborating with rappers. I like hip-hop and I like EDM, but those genres aren't easy to combine and do it well.

Marshmello is still in the charts so EDM is still alive. But it's on its last legs for sure just like trap. It definitely didn't die in 2018/2019, a bunch of DJs have been pumping out popular hits since then. Mainly Marshmello and Lauv. Last year RTMO and Roses were very high on the charts, especially Roses, and those are hardcore EDM songs. In fact, Roses was number 1 for a few weeks last summer. So I don't know why people say its been dead since 2018. I actually see EDM surviving longer than trap since new EDM hits seem to chart much higher than new trap hits respectively. Do you have any examples of 2020 and 2021 edm hit songs? The last edm hit song I can remember was either happier or the middle Marshmallow has been releasing some (trash, as always) "edm" songs since 2019, but they all underperform and they are all heavily influenced by other genres, to the point where they sound like diluted trap/country. Back in 2016, the charts were full to the brink with loud edm songs. Didn't you read my post? Roses by Saint Jhn was number for a couple of weeks in 2020... But I'll put a complete list of popular EDM songs from 2020 and 2021. Many of these even reached number 1. There are TONS... Marshmello is EDM and he also just made a collab hit with the Jonas Brothers... Roses was non-stop on the radio and it seen by many people as the summer song of 2020... That song is extremely EDM too. So how is EDM dead? More importantly, how did EDM die in 2018? Lol that's just very odd to me. It never died. But it certainly is "dying" compared to before for sure. But it's still alive, on its last legs if you ask me..

And all the other songs you listed might have been somewhat successful in the US, but they didn't do well globally at all. we still had a few rock hit songs here and there in 2010-2011, but most people will agree it died in the late 00s.

Roses was the number one song on both Billboard and American Top 40 last year... This is is in the USA for 2020.. RTMO absolutely is an EDM song and it sounds more EDM than Lauv's Modern Loneliness. Only reason I put Lauv in there is because he had used EDM synths in his song. But the other 3 I posted are hardcore EDM... How could you say RTMO isn't EDM? It sounds more EDM than any of the other songs I posted. And Roses absolutely was popular in the US and at number 1 in summer 2020 on the American Top 40. So yeah. The fact that you had Roses at number 1 in summer of 2020 proves EDM is still alive. But it is on its last legs for sure. I can still see it outliving trap though. EDM also stands for "Electronic Dance Music".

Ritmo is broadly EDM as in “electronic dance music” but it is absolutely not EDM as in early 2010s electronic club music. It’s a dancepop-influenced reggaeton song. A whole different universe compared to the chainsmokers lol

Throughout the years it may sound slightly different but it's still the same genre. But Roses is a song I can see being popular in 2016 as well.

I find it confusing since I typically use "EDM" as a catch all for all electronic dance music regardless of the style or subgenre. Some people get really hung up if you call anything EDM that isn't a specific style that was popular in the early to mid 2010s.

Well so far 2021 does seem like that transitional year people on here had been hoping for. Which is refreshing and hope it stays like that because 2020 and early 2021 were quite depressing periods for music..
In fact this year is quite similar to 1991 when artists were dabbling into new styles by basically throwing spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks.

I've listened to a lot of electronic music over the years and I'm not sure what distinguishes "EDM" as it's referred to on Popedia in regards to the mid 2010s fad and electronic music in general. What is today's electronic music called? In the 90s and through most of the 2000s, everyone just called it "techno." In the early 2010s, it was electropop. Then around 2012 or 13, everyone called it EDM. Apparently after 2017 or so it's no longer EDM anymore.

EDM is just a catch all term for any type of electronic dance music. There are many types of EDM music; house, trance, techno, ... The variants of EDM that were popular in the mid-2010s for instance are future bass and tropical house.
Future Bass:
Tropical House:
I did hear from EDM fans that they use the term for its 2010s incarnation because the culture around was so starkly different to before and not so much the 90s/2000s stuff which they prefer to call it "electronica".

I am seeing that too but 2020 was also like that. Most people hopped on retro pop but you saw some artists try to change things up a bit. Bottom line is this is a long transition into what 2020s music will really sound like.

Bottom line is this is a long transition into what 2020s music will really sound like. I have a hard time seeing music evolving much until we get concerts, festivals, and nightclubs back. That's why bedroom pop is perfect for this era, despite the fact I personally hate it.
