What year you think is the peak of the 2010s decade in terms of culture and spirit?
I have to choose 2015 because I believe that year is when the 2010s reached it's purest form. The Tumblr/hipster look reached an all time peak in 2015. The politics were getting even wilder than 2014, many people were radicalizing themselves from both sides. Music felt stereotypically 2010s with tons of EDM songs and pop; alternative R&B was very big this year.
I can see a case why 2016 is the most 2010s year.

2015 easily
2016 (and arguably even 2014-2015, to an extent) was honestly the foundation for the PC culture of the late 2010s and early 2020s. Ghostbusters 2016 was the point where it really got mainstream

2015 feels like the connective tissue between the two halves of the decade, so I'll put my money on that. 2016 skews already too much towards the late 2010s to be peak anything in my opinion.

Agreed. 2013 seems to be more connected with the earlier 2010s. 2014 does have some ties with the late 2010s but not too strong.

I don’t agree. 2016 was definitely the last cultural mid-2010’s year, even if there were already some late 2010’s elements. It’s definitely still peak 2010’s.

2016 is the definitive 2010s year to me
- Obama is president but Trump is also elected. Also the 2016 election was one of the most covered and discussed elections in recent years and is definitely the definitive 2010s election
- Trap starts to have a larger presence (Panda, Black Beatles), but EDM music is still very popular. Also a lot of mumble rappers start to come out this year
- Lots of the definitive 2010s shows are on air (GoT, Scandal, Adventure Time, The Walking Dead, etc.) and also on streaming (Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Bojack Horseman)
- 2016 was arguably the peak year for superhero movies (a 2010s staple) as both Marvel and DC released Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman respectively. Both depicted superheroes fighting against each other and Civil War was even the highest grossing movie that year
- Millennial youth culture is still dominant but Gen Z youth culture is quickly rising
- BLM protests, although taking place in 2014 and 2015, seemed to be a lot more present in 2016
- Hipster/tumblr fashion and culture is still a thing
- Brexit is announced
- Instagram has both its skeuomorphic design and its flat design this year (just a fun fact)
- Pokémon Go is a huge phenomenon
- Vine is still popular in its last year (Damn Daniel, Dabbing Squidward, Mannequin Challenge, etc.)
- Harambe, Pepe, Spongegar, Arthur memes
2015 is a very close second tho. I just think 2016 had more/bigger pop culture moments that define the 2010s

2016 and 2017 to me are peak 10s, I don't recall anything even remotely "2020s" about 2017.
Most culturally 10s things were popular back then, it wasn't until 2018 that they started losing popularity.

But 2017 was definitely still core 2010s all the way through imo

I think people have the impression that “mid 2010’s” and “core 2010’s” are the same thing (which they aren’t). A year can be late 2010’s and core 2010’s at the same time. The whole point of core 2010’s is that the year is 100% full culturally 2010’s whether it’s early, mid or late 2010’s culture.
