Emphasis on YEARS.
IMO:
1) 2008
2) 2020
3) 2001
4) 2016
5) 2009
Honourable mentions to 2015, 2004(I don't remember much but going by knowledge i've acquired that seems to be where the early 00s truly culturally ended), 2011 and 2013

*Of the century. Btw, what happened in 1997? Y2k aesthetic started creeping into commercials and on the runway, Backstreet boys and Spice girls dominated the 1 and 2 spots on the radio ( teen pop started becoming the new thing ) Playstation 1 became the cool thing, Biggie Smalls died ( ending an era of Gangsta rap) Princess Diana died, Disney Channel became a basic cable channel instead of premium. Carson Daly became the new host of anything MTV related, TRL launched ( was using the name MTV LIVE at the time) Sonic The Hedgehog changed his appearance to his more Dreamcast look ( minus green eyes), Family Matters and Step by Step staples of 90s abc TGIF moved to CBS Block party. Steve Jobs returned to apple ( was a big deal in the news) Frosted tips take off. King of the Hill debuts on FOX. Beavis and Butthead air the final episode. All in all it was a year that felt classic 90s but also you could see the y2k aspects creeping in.

I think it's a good thing we talk about the cultural shifts of the 80s and 90s too since they rarely get brought up nowadays

If we're talking just the 21st century, it's this.
2020 ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- 2008 ---- 2001 2015 2006

If we're talking just the 21st century, it's this. 2020 ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- 2008 ---- 2001 2015 2006 Accurate, the thing about the 2006 shift is while it did shift things, it was more of an expansion pack to 2006 ( service pack 2) or some ish. By Fall 06 things felt a little bit different but they weren't life altering like 2020,2008 or even 2001

Most Transitional Years of the 21st Century: 2001 2008 2016 2020 I can’t decide on a 5th one, but these 4 years are monumental of the 21st century. Most Transitional Cultural Eras of the 21st Century: 1) late 2001-mid 2004 (early 2000s) 2) late 2006-mid 2009 (late 2000s) 3) late 2016-present (late 2010s-early 2020s) Most Transitional School Years of the 21st Century: 1) 2008-2009 2) 2016-2017 3) 2020-2021 2016 above 2020??? I'm not judging, just curious why.

2016 above 2020??? I'm not judging, just curious why. I was listing them in chronological order sorry. From biggest to smallest shift: 2020 > 2001 > 2008 > 2016. Makes sense to 2020-2021 to be 3rd place because there were barely any a shift pop culturally just more visible changes
