We're a year into this new gen with the PS5 and Xbox Series X and only have 3 next gen exclusives, one of which is a remake and the others which look like they could run on a PS4. Only upcoming games shown with true next gen graphics are Horizon Forbidden West and Black Myth Wukong. On top of that barely anyone can get PS5s due to the transistor shortage.
I don't see 9th gen truly taking off and 8th gen being a thing of the past until mid 2023 at the earliest.

PS5 is pretty overrated. I was just playing it the other day. Games take forever to download, there isn't enough of a difference between PS4 and PS5, or standout games, maybe there are a few but it doesn't justify the price or the waiting times imo.
The whole idea of pushing boundaries in creativity, and gameplay mechanics like they did in the late 80s to the Y2K era doesn't seem to be important to anyone it's all about pleasing fanboys and making as much money as possible at any cost.
I find most recent games to be soulness, generic, samey, easy and stuck in same mid to late 2000s grey bland aesthetic. I can't be fully committed to modern gaming, its too expensive, too many franchises to keep up with, and not as exciting as older games pre 2003, I'm still waiting for change. Retro gaming still is better both in terms of value and experience imo.

You can still find plenty of great gems coming out like Ghostrunner if you look beyond just the soulless AAA games like TLOU and COD being pushed so heavily. As for PS5 yeah, it seems pretty useless now besides faster loading times since there's a severe drought atm. You'll really start to feel next gen starting around 2023 where more and more next gen games are released and shown off.

Aware of good indie games and non-mainstream games.. still don't care about most of them, and prefer older games.

I've already given up on the PS5 lol: A) I couldn't get one so, I have to use a friends one. B) Feels pretty much the same as the PS4, barely an upgrade at all. C) Not many interesting games.
Overall, very overrated system IMO.

I wonder that too, I feel like other companies might try and mimick the Switch (though, Nintendo will always have its exclusives). Nintendo might come up with something very different though (like they always seem to do lol).

I agree with ps5 is basically the same with minor graphical upgrades, Switch has about 2 1/2 years left so I am feasting on what they got

Overall, very overrated system IMO. You'll have to wait until 2023/2024 before you see its real potential when they start releasing more games which take full advantage of the consoles graphical capabilities and hardware. The devs said the SSD will allow for very big breakthroughs in game design and possibly the creation of new genres. "The biggest leap since the jump to 3D" or something along those lines. As for the graphics, there are a few upcoming games and demos that show a glimpse into what games will look like very soon: s.yimg.com/os/creatr-uploaded-images/2020-05/97ffc8c0-9526-11ea-bf7f-5cf0cae8c9ff

Sony isn't even trying anymore lol, they're know they're the biggest name when it comes to homes console and everyone will buy whatever PlayStation they release
Would be interesting if we had a "90s 2.0" scenario and sony falls off like what happened to nintendo/sega when the ps1 cames out

They've dominated gaming for almost 3 decades and every other company that tries to enter the console market recently flops hard like the ouya and google stadia.
