Overlapping parts is the best Right, it is the only way to divide a decade in three equal parts of 3 years Looks more symmetrical and satisfying cause all the parts add up

The most logical option: 2000-2002, 2003-2006, 2007-2009
Nicely symmetrical, and the closest to accurately dividing the decade in 3 equal parts, since the second half starts in spring 2003 and the third in fall 2006.

Like this? 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 1/2 2003 1/2, 2004, 2005, 2006 1/2 2006 1/2, 2007, 2008, 2009 Wonky but it works My whole idea about it is that things should be "fluid" if that makes sense. Entirety of 2003 belongs to both early and mid, entirety of 2006 belongs to both mid and late. I also don't really like exact cutoff dates unless it's the actual beginning and end of the year or decade...

Early: 2000-2002
Mid: 2003-2006
Late: 2007-2009
Culturally I’d say:
Early: 2000-2003
Mid: 2004-2007
Late: 2008-2009

Numerically I’d say: Early: 2000-2002 Mid: 2003-2006 Late: 2007-2009 My only issue is that 2000-2002 and 2007-2009 are 3 years long each, but 2003-2006 is 4 years long I guess it's only an issue because it's impossible to divide 10 by 3 without overlapping

Depends.
The 1970s and 90s were more or less split decades, while the 80s and 10s were overall pretty similar all the way through.

Either way, 2010 and 2019 are worlds apart. Using hip hop as an example 2010: 2019:
