I'm not sure what type of 80s music y'all hear in "Bad Habits", but we're certainly not thinking about the same decade.
Sounds like a pretty typical future house song to me, very much in the same vain as "Roses" from last year:

It being inspired by the 80s makes it a 20s song since that is the dominant style this decade whereas the 10s was more about electropop/EDM/indie in the first half and Trap/Mumble rap/Tropical house and EDM-pop in the second half with funky retro style music being relatively scarce. Only artist I know who consistently pumped out that type of music in the 10s is bruno mars. The production in that song definitely does not sound fresh at all It could've been released in 2017-2018 This is what a song released in that timeframe sounds like. Bad habits sounds completely different.

Sure, but the throwbacks need to go. They actually seem to be fading away this year compared to 2020. 2020 is definitely the peak of throwback music. Nah 2020 was the start of it. The early 20s will be defined by throwbacks. 2020 had less throwbacks since you still had lots of late 10s style hits.

It started around 2016/2017 (you could make a point for even earlier, like 2013), it just wasn't as in your face until late 2019 and 2020 which is why I say 2020 is the peak, since it's starting to calm down now. It's mostly an early 20s thing yeah, but 2020 is part of the early 20s and IMO it peaked in 2020. Doesn't mean it isn't still around. The biggest throwback hits of "this year" (Levitating and Save Your Tears) were actually released in late 2020.

Technically modern electropop began in 2004 with "What you waiting for" by gwen stefani but wasn't common until late 2008 or 2009. >The biggest throwback hits of "this year" (Levitating and Save Your Tears) were actually released in late 2020. They were more popular this year which is more relevant than the actual release date.

It almost sounds like hyperpop with the heavily processed vocals.

No it isn't. And on top of that the vocals are completely different with the heavily processed vocals in roses compared to no autotune or processing at all on Sheerans vocals in Bad Habits.

The vocals aren't what's important, it's the production. Lady Gaga's vocals on "Bad Romance" are left unprocessed, while Ke$ha's are drenched with autotune on "Tik Tok" to the point she sounds like a robot. And despite that, both songs are considered electropop classics.

Most people lump all electropop under one banner but I think there is a huge variety in the different electropop tracks released in the 2008-2013 timeframe. TikTok and Bad Romance do in fact sound very different.

A song doesn't change magically genre just because someone else sings on it. And same with if you remove the vocals, you get the instrumental version of it, but it still is in the same genre.

So this: Sounds similar to this? hhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQf13Mbza9k&ab_channel=UsherVEVO Yes they are all electronic based and pop. But those are very broad genres. You could lump them all together under the same banner from a broad point of view but they still sound very different. The electropop of 2011-2013 sounds closer to EDM than the electropop of 2008-2010 despite EDM being considered a completely seperate genre.

Also, you people need to understand that EVERY song nowadays has autotune or some sort of vocal polishing in them
Even songs by alternative rock bands and such use it nowadays

The differences lie on the production. Some of those songs are production-wise more influenced by things like electro house than others. The same way "Roses" is a future house song and "Bad Habits" is a pop song with future house beats.
