Internet culture in 2015-17 was edgy and tryhard.

Part of me wonders if this era of culture was a backlash against the "lol random humor", bronies, and generally cheesy/lighthearted vibe of 2010-2013.
Perhaps why, as a counter-backlash, that era of internet culture has been making a comeback as of late.
Also, I feel this era really began in 2014, when Filthy Frank took off in popularity, and you had the whole Gamergate incident take place, which caused lots of anti-SJW sentiment on the internet.

What's funny about this typefont is that it comes from a failed meme from the early 2010s (zalgo)

The irony is a lot of the cringe culture of this era, people making fun of Minecraft YouTubers and FNAF stuff and commentary channels and whatnot has ITSELF become cringy as hell.

It's also more similar to the early 2010s, when memes were still in their lighthearted pre-ironic phase and Minecraft was THE coolest game ever. That probably explains why the early 2010s are now seeing so much nostalgia online.
