I tend to think that there will be some sort of shift in mainstream music at some point next year. The thing to consider, is that most of the songs which will be released next year would have been composed/recorded at some point in 2017. Many people predicted this year to be the year of change, but the bulk of the songs that were released this year are "products" of 2016. It will be interesting to see if Donald Trump's presidency has some sort of influence on the songs released in 2018.

Which is why I'm excited about 2018, and I feel like it will be extremely transitional not only for the pop culture but for me as well since I'll be 16 that year.

I personally think that the music industry is seriously in need of a change. To be honest, I was hoping that 2017 would be transitional for much the same reasons (since I turned 18 this year). Unfortunately, it never happened.

I actually can't remember there being a change in music in 2014. 2013 was definitely transitional and 2016 was to a much smaller extent, but 2014 seemed the same as 2015 for me.

I do want to see a change in mainstream music, not because I dislike the current one (in fact I actually like it) but because I like change sometimes and I'm already kind of excited to hear how music will sound like in the next two years we have left in this decade. I think 2020 will sound a bit different from now.

Yeah, I was just talking about in terms of my own personal life. 2014 was the most transitional year for me so far.

To be honest, the only transitional years for me this decade would have to be 2012, 2015 and 2017. This year would have to be one of the most transitional years I have ever experienced, due to turning 18, graduating high school, voting etc.

In 2013, you started seeing fewer teens going on Facebook and more on Instagram, Vines came out, the electropop sound of the early 2010's was starting to fade away, new artists like Lorde started becoming popular, Ariana Grande was becoming more popular, and the first year with any Gen Z influences IMO.

It was the last year I was playing with dolls and the last year I was into kid stuff. 2005 and 2014 are like both borderline in terms of my childhood. That's why I consider 2006-2013 being my full kid years.
