Shitty ass year, particularly the latter half. I’m glad it’s almost 5 years ago. 2017 has not aged well lol.

Not really old. A repeat nothing burger of 2016 + trump officially present, slightly more official late 2010s, switch, Pepe frog memes, fidget spinners and both core and subdued mid 2010s culture in the earliest stages of either starting to look starting cheesy, annoying as fuck or long in the tooth.

things about 2017 that were noteworthy
- The Vegas shootings - MTV's TRL coming back and flopping hard - Trump sitting in office - Fidget spinners - Spider-Man reboot - boring music

I consider most of 2020 and very early 2021 a frozen period, it was a like staying frozen in a time capsule and things barely moving at the same time, right now its 2022 and I consider 2017, more to be 3 and half years based on this.
Mid 2018 and latter 2019 had marked more changes going on and whatever late 2020 changes occurred were really felt the spring to winter 2021.

You can knock off a year and bit, it honestly doesn't count.

Cringe as f 70s nerd glasses became cool out of nowhere when core fashion was in midst of dying in late 2017/early 18.

It feels like ages ago although when I remember a game or song or something from that year, 5 years seems way too long ago for it.

I don’t get why people say 2017 was fully divorced or distinct from the mid 2010s when 2017 was a worse and more obnoxious tweak of that culture. 2017 still felt like mid 2015 and 2016 to me. 2017 felt long in the tooth with all the mid 2010s trends. I don’t think we’ll fully break away from 2017 until 2023 or 2024, hopefully sometime in 2022.

I think a shooting happened at an Ariana Grande concert that October and the late 2010s mass shooting craze took off. I believe 2017 was worse than 2016. I found 2016 slightly more interesting. I’d much rather consume 2021 pop culture. At least 2021 is slightly more interesting and original, if not fully. 2017 was unoriginal and dark.
