I'm guessing:
Classic '90s = 1991-1996
Modern '90s = 1997-2000
or something like that.

I could see 1992 being the beginning of the classic '90s. 1991 would lean that way imo but 1990 was wayyyy too 80s to legitimately be in that category.

Ironic is a classic 90s song, without a doubt. Remember what I said about how the Gen X 90s had that "sarcastic, apathetic" vibe to it? Well, Ironic fits that to a tee. That 2pac song I also know fits because, well, it's fucking 2pac, he's an icon of the era in my opinion.
On a side note: Classic 90s in my opinion is WAY better than the modern 90s, at least for music

That 2pac song I also know fits because, well, it's fucking 2pac, he's an icon of the era in my opinion. On a side note: Classic 90s in my opinion is WAY better than the modern 90s Funny enough, 3 out of 4 of the songs I put in the "doesn't belong in either era" category fit more in the classic 90s category overall. You're right, Ironic as a song definitely fits the classic 90s appeal, I guess I was going based on timeline, as 1995-1996 was transitioning out of the classic 90s. The only song that might fit the modern 90s is Scream because of the heavy Y2K aesthetic in the music video and even that is a stretch because 1995 Michael Jackson as a whole was still VERY classic 90s MJ. Especially since he kinda took a hiatus in the modern 90s after having kids. I might fix the list and get rid of the in-between category. But the song that fit the classic 90s really fit the classic 90s and the same for the modern 90s. Edit: you are SO right. Tupac was the face of the classic 90s! Same with Kurt Cobain or even more than him. I think one song that might not fit either era though is this: Not gonna lie, when I first heard it, I thought it came out in the 2000s. Little did I know that it came out in 1996, and seeing the music video confirms that. But maybe the fact that I thought this song came out in the 2000s would safely put it in the modern 90s category.

It depends on who you ask. If you ask a black man they'll say 2pac was the icon of the 90s, whilst if you ask a white man, they'll say Kurt Cobain. Personally, I like to believe both are hanging out in heaven together. Along with Biggie Smalls and Chris Cornell.
