Ringtone rap era felt very long in the tooth by 2008 with all the shitty ringtone rappers and horrible eyesore fashion. I remember thinking it looked corny back then and i was just a kid
The electropop 08 era was feeling SUPER long in the tooth by 2012. And i think the world agrees with me because of how quickly the electropop 08 era died in 2013. There were just so many Gaga rip-offs at the time. Ms.Gaga herself has extremely overexposed at the time (specially 2011) and had become something of a joke.
Mumble era rap felt so long in the tooth by early 2019, though it peaked in popularity sometime in 2018 it was still super popular in early ’19.
Speaking of the late 10s, the culture of the time already felt overwhelming and played out by early 2018 to me.

Anyways let me give my own answers, speaking from my own personal experience
2003: The early 2000s culture that was fresh in 2000/2001 gradually began to dry up and by 2003 really felt stale. Matrix sequels, late 90s cartoons still airing, Jim Carrey still in movies, nu metal still on the radio.
2011: Transformers and Twilight were still out there making movies, we still had electropop, companies were still pushing 3D, Frutiger Aero aesthetics were still trucking along.
2016: Besides certain things like Trump winning the election and Pokemon Go so much of it felt long in the tooth. Everyone was still all up about Minecraft, Five Nights at Freddys, Vine memes, among other such things. Justin Bieber and The Chainsmokers were getting old.
The present: Yes, right now. I’m still hearing constantly about Fortnite, woke politics, Donald Trump, streaming services, and other crap I’ve been hearing about since 2018.

Early 2001 Portion of 2001
Oh god guys I damn mini series can be made about how bad this was, I will break it down into bullet points. You already know the deal
- Brain dead fads like RAZOR Scooter
- Teen Pop played on the radio at nauseam along with soda ads disguised as Teen Pop music videos on TV
- The Economy slowed the hell down after the Dot Com crash
- Pokemon became very uncool after a few weeks of Gold and Silver coming out
- 5th gen systems were feeling super slow, thankfully we got games like Tony Hawk 2, No Mercy, Smackdown 2, Final Fantasy 9 but still...
- You could not buy a PS2 anywhere, despite the hype it was SOLD OUT at every store
- Sega went out of bussiness as a console maker, THIS PISSED ME THE HELL OFF, Sega in general was feeling pretty flabby by early 01 anyways. Dreamcast lost it's luster
- Digimon Fad came and went, as much as I liked season 2 it felt SLOW AF
- Fox Kids pretty much gave up and was on auto pilot
- Kids WB creating a second Toonami block to air at the same time as the regular Toonami block ( the Anime fad was peaking and u could feel it)
- Wrestling was feeling long in tooth even a month before WCW was bought by WWF
- Game Boy Color came and went, by early 2001 we were all talking about GBA and Super Mario Advance 1
- Color imacs, LONG IN THE TOOTH, esp the clamshell laptops that had different colors, they peaked in popularity around this time
- Limp Bizkit, oh god the felt so washed up by Mid 2001, it was like alright it's not cool to like this band anymore, they were Nickleback status
The end of the Y2K era felt so long in the tooth, and yes new stuff was coming in, but we were not mind readers and could not predict how The early
2000s were going to play out post July 2001. TV in general felt super slow and SUPER long in the tooth from Fall 2000 to July 2001.

This is very much true, Early 2003 was dope, BUTTTTT we are tending to overlook how stale it felt. I skipped doing 2003 atmosphere threads for this very reason. Back in 9th grade for the 02-03 freshman year, I felt like the early 2000s were on auto pilot, the early 2000s did everything they could do pop culturally, there was no where else to go. Wrestling was starting to feel super stale in 03, The WB..you could tell was running the wheels in the sand. MTV 2 was starting to air more reality shows and less music. You could tell things were just "there" The Fake mid 2000s was a LONG SLOW and drawn out process, growing pains ensued until Fall 2004. Things felt super uneasy and unbalanced pop culture wise until we hit that Fall 2004 marker. It was like a Mario flag end of level checkmark...we needed to hit that threshold of Summer 2004 to fully cross over.  But yeah early 03 felt LONG in the TOOTH ! lol ![]()

I think if we're talking full years, then 2000 would be a better fit for being a limbo year. yeah only half of 2001, but the rest of 2001 after that was fine ( minus 9/11) I would say 2000 is a good fit for a full year, it had that long in the tooth energy

Amazing TV shows, movies, games. Outkast's Hey Ya and Britney Spears' Toxic helped define the year. The ABSOLUTE peak of the 6th gen (Xbox, PS2, GameCube, Game Boy Advance). It also kickstarted the mid 2000s, an era that, if anything, I thought was TOO short. I loved that whole Drake and Josh/GTA San Andreas/peak Windows XP/MP3 player/Avatar: The Last Airbender/Need for Speed vibe and when it died down by 2007/2008, what it was replaced by, whilst not bad, just wasn't the same to me. I wouldn't go as far as to say the late 2000s were soulless (unlike the late 2010s), but it felt blander. Motion control games, gritty shooters, Twilight, Michael Bay Transformers. It was also pretty lame for cartoons and kid culture, and the music sounded very processed to me, a sharp contrast from the edgy rock and rap I was used to. The only thing I was happy to see go was ringtone rap, and even I consider that more of a late 2000s thing than mid 2000s, and it didn't really go away until 2009...which was still a terrible year for music (two words: crunk core).

I agree 2004 is prob the most exciting year of the 2000s, everything was coming together, music, fashion, TV movies.. EVERYTHING !
