If there is a 2010 movie I would actually call somewhat "edgy", it would probably be Alice In Wonderland, with its gothic Tim Burton aesthetic.

Toy Story 3 kinda did feel like the late 2000s in that sense. Now that I'm thinking about it, so did the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid as well. Very 2009 vibes and was a bit more dark and edgier compared to the sequels.

I wonder when TS 3 was made, I am thinking 2008 or 2009

1968 and 1979 were both the edgiest AND most futuristic years of their decade.
Anyways, I don't agree with 2001 as the most wholesome 2000s year at all. 2001 after all was also the year of nu metal at its height, and games like Conker's Bad Fur Day and GTA 3 coming out.
I'd say the most wholesome 2000s year was 2009. That year was defined by movies like Up, Princess and the Frog, Avatar, and was also the year where angsty alt-rock was at its LEAST popular, practically at 2010s levels. 2002 is a close second. Most movies, games, and songs were relatively light-hearted that particular year.
For edgiest 80s year, I'd say 1980, which saw the release of Empire Strikes Back (tied with ROTS and Rogue One for darkest Star Wars movie), Friday the 13th, and The Shining. Also AC/DC's Back In Black came out that year.
1984 had too much horror stuff to be the most wholesome year to me. I'd personally pick 1985, which was defined by things like Super Mario Bros, Paperboy, Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, and songs like "Don't You Forget About Me" and "Take on Me".
I pretty much completely agree with the 90s and 2010s.

I would say wholesome prob 2000
everything was cookie cutter then ( Linkin Park didn't even blow up until Q4 2000)

2000 did at least have nu metal as a subculture/counterculture. 2008-2009 had scene as its defining subculture, which is about as lighthearted and colorful as you can get as far as subcultures are concerned. Those were the most wholesome years of the 2000s.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. Internet culture in the early 2010s was more fresh when it came to creepy pastas then they sorta lost popularity. But then again I love “nightmare tales” lol
