a big UNTRUE do you have any idea how many units Xbox 360 moved between November 2005 and November 2006 ? Do you have any idea how many units Nintendo Wii sold before we even hit 2007 ?
slim95 do you see this Yeah he doesn't have clear memories of that time and just how many changes were happening. Exactly, for his perspective on the matter he has no memory of 2000,2001,2002,2003,2004 and only maybe about 50% of 2005 so that leaves him with just 2006 and 2007 and 2008 as full years he can comprehend, no wonder why he thinks 2009 is just like the 2000s because he only remembers 3 years of it prior to 2009 lol

Well, 2009 has connections to the 2000s. It's a crackhead take if one thinks its 100% 2010s.

Not only does it have zero connections to the 2000s, it has zero connections to the LATE 2000s as well. It was 100% a 2010s year. It was the first full year of the cultural 2010s.

It MAY have early 2010s elements, but I wouldn't even call 2010 a true cultural 2010s year honestly. 2011, with the rise of hipsters, touchscreen smartphones, and Minecraft, was where the 2010s truly started IMHO.

2009 has as much in common with 2010s zeitgeist as 1930 has in common with the stone age.
What is the 2010s zeitgeist?
Smartphones, a variety of Social Media apps, Memes, Streaming, Indie pop, etc. There are more things which define it but these are amongst the biggest.
What does 2009 have in common with these things?
Smartphones? Barely anyone has them. They didn't become commonplace until 2011. And smartphones are probably the most definitive thing of the 2010s that changed how we lived our lives.
Social Media? Only facebook was popular alongside MySpace. MySpace is a clear cut 2000s social media so if we include that it makes 2009 an even less "2010s" year. Otherwise the only case that can be made is that facebook was starting to get popular but there still wasn't a proper variety of social media like instagram, snapchat, vine, kik, whatsapp, tumblr, etc. The social media era clearly hadn't begun yet.
Memes? The memes that existed were primitive late 00s/early 10s era memes which are not representative of 2010s style memes and memes hadn't seeped into most aspects of internet/youth culture like it did in the 2010s.
Streaming? Wasn't even close to being mainstream back in 2009.
Music? Electropop which died out in 2013. Everything else sounded like it could be in previous years of the 2000s. Indie pop, EDM and trap/mumble rap weren't mainstream.
I don't get why people keep saying it is a 2010s year. At best it is a hybrid era between the 2000s and 2010s that doesn't fit properly in either era.

Seinfeld reunion in 2009 making front of Blackberries (a type of smart phone) Facebook got popular in Spring 2007 and finally beat Myspace in Q3 2009

I think Blackberries were proto/beta-smartphones; transitional phones unique to the 2008-2010 period. The iPhones and Samsung Galaxies are true modern smartphones and had many features and qualities Blackberries didn't have.

Do you not think the early 2010s were the 2010s?

Unbelievable. You must be very young. Everyone knows the 2010s culturally began in late 2008. I've heard some say 2009, that's acceptable. But 2011? That's insane. Early 2010s culture was VERY established by then.

Post-Obama, pre-Occupy Wall Street. Post-recession, pre-hipster. Post-Razr, pre-iPhone.

The weird thing about 2009 is that while it did have a brand new feeling while it was happening, it also aged very poorly very quickly. I vividly remember thinking in 2013 that stuff from 2009 had already aged very funny and almost seemed from another world, like stuff like "Boom Boom Pow", Snooki fashion or old YouTube. I can't imagine thinking the same of 2018 in 2022 in comparison.

You can add Farmville, Fred, BlackBerry phones, CN Real, and scene culture (including crunkcore) to that category. 2008-2010 truly was a distinct period all its own. Not core 2000s, but definitely not core 2010s either. I personally call it the "Great Recession Era", since that's the main thing that defined it.
