By late 2000s I am saying 2006 - Late 2008. It wasn't the 2010s yet, but it wasn't the classic 2000s anymore either. This was a weird short era with an identity criss. Full of corny Lil Wayne style rap beats. I would still say it leaned more towards the 2010s because of the technology (IPhone, flat screen TVs, YouTube, etc). But it was a very odd era.

Late 00s leans way more towards the 00s besides 2009 which is about 50/50 in between the 00s and 10s(00s more culturally, 10s more politically).
The Iphone came out in 2007 but no one had it. I don't get why there is so much emphasis on launch dates even though no one has them and it doesn't really affect the culture at the time.

Of course numerically speaking, the 2000s ended on December 31, 2009.

Also, the late 2000s have very little in common with the mid 2000s which still had a classic 2000s vibe. Everything got modernized and new in 2006, and completely escalated in 2008. Only thing it had in common was reality TV shows. But those didn't go away until the mid 2010s anyway.

Iphones weren't even mainstream yet. Meme culture was still niche. Facebook had only just gotten popular and there wasn't instagram, snapchat, vine, tumblr etc(maybe some of them existed at the time but no one used it). To each our own I guess.

Sexyback was a one off thing back in 2006 and the same type of music was completely drowned out by 00sish music in 2007 and most of 2008. You have a point about 7th gen consoles releasing but very few people had it in 2006.

Nightmare farm said previously that he does not have any memories before 2005, he can't remember the early 2000s or a good portion of the mid 2000s for any reference. That is why is sense of decades is so warped.

Sexyback was not a one off thing, Timbaland produced many of the songs from 06-2008 that sounded like it production wise

But you get my point.

slim95 do you see this Yeah he doesn't have clear memories of that time and just how many changes were happening. One thing I will say for certain is that 2009 felt nothing like the 2010s. I know it wasn't a genuine 2000s year but it also has very little in common with the 2010s zeitgeist.

Like I agree that 2008 was a very changeful year, but it also is not like we were really in the 2010s yet. 2011 is where the 2010s zeitgeist really came onto its own, and 2013 is when we entered the peak/core 2010s (which lasted 2013-2016 and was defined by BuzzFeed and Vine).

At this point, I find 2011 more changeful than 2009. So many things from that year set the tone for the core 2010s identity. 2009 just set the tone for only the early 2010s.
