I remember this time frame very distinctly. This felt like the peak of late 2010s culture. Fortnite blew up in popularity and was being streamed by celebrities like Drake. Ninja blew up and became the biggest Twitch streamer on the platform. VRChat was also a trendy game back then. Ugandan Knuckles memes were very popular, as was Steamed Hams. The Parkland shooting happened during this time, and you saw the March for Our Lives movement. Lots of people hated the NRA and wanted to repeal the 2nd amendment. I remember at my school (I believe exactly a month after the shooting passed), we literally had an event where we released balloons as a representation of all the kids that died that day. Couple this with the emo rap movement that was huge back then (it arguably peaked then, as XXXTentacion had his biggest hit then), and it gave this period a very dark vibe. Black Panther came out and was a very big movie. Everyone talked about it and Wakanda back then. Jake and Logan Paul were still very popular back then, and everyone was mad at Logan Paul for the suicide forest video. He released an apology video which then became one of the most disliked videos on YouTube lmao. Overall as dark of a period in society and pop culture as it was, I also feel a weird sense of nostalgia towards it. This truly felt like the last time I was really into youth culture before I became disassociated with it during the 2018-2019 school year.

i’ll never feel nostalgic for that time period ew it was terrible I don’t blame you, it was quite a dark era. I’m mainly nostalgic toward it since I was still into youth culture, even if a lot of it wasn’t great.

The 2017-2018 school year as well as Summer 2018 was when it was really big.

I agree, even though I didn't particularly like that period because it was rather depressing as a teen with school shootings, emo/Soundcloud rap, and the overhype of Fortnite. At least the Eagles won the Super Bowl though, woo! I also feel like 2018 in general had so much more memorable memes compared to these early 2020s years so far.

I really can't look over this time period positively when i don't really feel a connection to my 12 year old self at any angle.
Anyways, 7th grade wasn't exactly a good year for me but the vibe certainly wasn't helping, it was stressful especially the early 2018 portion. I didn't vibe with the culture although that's probably because I wasn't part of the target audience at that time. This was the last major period where i basically went without social media as i had a phase in middle school where i bashed social media revolving around people's profiles but as i come from a country where facebook is a primary source of connections, i eventually had to succu- i mean join facebook for school, so i am oddly nostalgic for the aspect of mine.
2018 didn't really show promise until the spring and the year only turned a leaf during the second half, although that can be discussed somewhere else.

Really to me that year between September 2017 and September 2018 is definitive late 2010s. March 2018 makes sense since its right in the middle.

Early 2018 is a period where it's not connected to the mid 2010s and early 2020s very much so it's a good choice for the peak late 10s period.
