Back for the new year! The rules are simple, with 52 weeks and then some, we try to average roughly 1 album a week. Albums you already listened to in 2020 count. At the end of the year, I can make a leaderboard to see who survived the challenge and came out on top. Format: Make a post with the list of albums you have listened to this year. You edit and update this post whenever you listen a new album (don't make a new post). If you want to write a seperate post about the album specifically, you can do that, but try to keep the master list in one place (for record-keeping purposes). What counts as an album? Use your best judgement. I would say anything with at least 8 songs or is at least 25 minutes long counts as an album. Anything between 4-8 songs I usually count as a mini-album (0.5 points). The album can be from any year, it does not have to have been released in 2020. All that matters is you listened to it for the first time, in full, in 2020. You can use these stars to rate the albums you have listened to. You can also mention your favourite and least favourite tracks. You can put country flags too to indicate language/country. ★ ★★ ★★★ ★★★★ ★★★★★ Previous edition(s): 2019

Good to see this is back for another year! I'm not really sure what album I want to check out next. I've been meaning to give MCR's Danger Days a listen to for a while now, but after deciding to listen to "Sing" for the first time in years about a month ago, it has kind of put me off from it. I don't know, the album itself just seems to be a huge let down given how good Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and The Black Parade are. There's also Bleach by Nirvana which I want to listen to in full one day. "About a Girl" is actually one of my favourite Nirvana songs, so that could be a possibility.

I finished my first album of 2020. Rare by Selena Gomez. It is lo-fi pop. I think the music is really creative and fun, but it's just not my style. Call me a philistine but I prefer fast paced music. But it was still a decent album. 3 stars.

I finished listening to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004) by My Chemical Romance. I'm not sure whether to add it to my list, however. I THINK I listened to this album before, I knew all the songs in the first half of the album. The second half was familiar enough, although my brain might be pulling tricks on me.
I enjoyed it a lot more than back then though. I think I didn't like it because the album is about girl problems. As an 11 year old I didn't have any, and was more drawn to political "emo" like Green Day and Sum 41.

Tbh, I actually believe Three Cheers is the better album overall, although I still found TBP to be an enjoyable listen as well. I just prefer the more punk-driven, fast-tempo sound of Three Cheers.

Fair enough. I decided to give Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys a listen. Tbh, I went into this album not expecting to enjoy it. I can remember finding both "Na Na Na" and "Sing" to be pretty average when they were hits back in 2010 and the album itself has received very mixed reviews over the years; on RateYourMusic, Danger Days has a rating of just 2.79, which is below average and far below the ratings of their earlier releases. So I was surprised when I ended up enjoying quite a few of the deeper cuts on here. "Bulletproof Heart" is an interesting track in particular as it combines elements of their earlier style with their new synth-driven, pop-rock sound. It's like the perfect linking point between the two eras of My Chemical Romance, it would have worked well as the lead-single . Shame it wasn't too be. That leads me to my next point. I still think "Sing" was a very poor choice for a single. It works well in the context of the album, but listening to it on it's own, it's a rather generic, radio-rock fodder that never comes close to reaching the heights of their earlier work. I actually think it's one of the worst songs they have released. I have listened to it a few times since 2010 and my opinion of it has never changed. "Party Poison" sounds like something that was originally intended for the ill-fated Conventional Weapons project. It's more of a fast-tempo, punk track, similar to some of the album tracks off The Black Parade. I haven't really read in-depth about the history behind this track, I do know that at least some of the songs off CW were re-worked onto Danger Days. "Vampire Money" sounds like it has similar origins as well. The rest of the tracks on this album are a real mixed bag though. On their own, I think most of these songs work well, however they don't make for much of a coherent album. The narrator interlude tracks just don't work. I know that My Chemical Romance were going for a certain concept when they made this record, but it's executed pretty poorly. If I didn't know any better, I wouldn't have the faintest idea that the concept of the album is supposed to be set in a 2019, post-apocalyptic California. All in all, I do think that this album is often unfairly criticised, but on the other hand, the issues people have with this album aren't unwarranted. Favourite tracks: "Bulletproof Heart", "Party Poison", "S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W"

Vampire Monkeys was on top of my Discover Weekly today, and I liked it. Although with this lukewarm review I will probably not go much deeper

I remember al said this when she listened to the album for the first time, but it's really interesting to listen to as it's such a product of it's time. Also, who knows, you may end up really enjoying the album!
