The Biden Inauguration really feels like the start of a brand new era. I think we're leaning slightly more early 2020's by this point. COVID IMO was just the transition and I don't really think that alone made us lean into early 2020's culture as much as the Biden Administration did. But this time it really feels like a new beginning is starting.

Besides COVID, 2020 felt like a cultural late 2010s year with Trump in office & it was an 8th gen gaming year like most of the 2010s because the PS5 wasn’t out until very late that year. 2021 is when early 2020s culture will be in full effect.

It does feel a little bit different. I will say by the fall of 2021, it would feel more like the 2020s culture. I agree. By then early 2020s culture will peak, making 2022 the quintessential year of the early 2020s. Plus that’s the 1st full school year of Biden’s presidency & 8th gen gaming. Hopefully by then pop culture will be more distinct from the late 2010s & unique 2 the early 2020s. Late 2010s r stale & long in the tooth.

With the Biden inauguration, the 2010s became more distant. Nothing has changed. It feels identical to 2019 with a tiny bit less core 2010s culture, Covid, Biden inauguration and the PS5, minor and random hints of new possible trends .None of the following have created 2020s yet. There isn’t anything that the defines the actual popular culture or zeitgeist of 2020s yet, there is no real or clear dividing line yet. walking into a mall feels identical to mid to late 2018 to early 2020. Infact so much stuff is still left from then due to slow shipments and lack of new items. Maybe we’re on the last gasps or breathe of late 2010s culture which will be dead by fall 2021. I predict late 2010s influences will linger throughout the early 2020s, but be obsolete by 2023 or 2024.

Ask yourselves this question. What is early 2020s culture? We all know that a lot has changed in the world since the W.H.O declared COVID-19 a pandemic, but what music, TV shows, or movies are unique to the 2020s?
Think of the differences between 2007 and 2010. By 2010, electropop had become the dominant genre on the charts, TV shows such as "The Walking Dead" and "Adventure Time" had made their debut, the iPad was released to the public and 3D Television became a huge fad. Three years earlier, smartphones hadn't even taken off in popularity, rock was still culturally relevant, baggy clothing and the "emo swoop" were still popular, and people still depended on physical media such as CDs and DVDs. Although the 2010s had yet to fully establish their own cultural identity at that point, the pop culture of 2010 was distinct enough from even 2008 for it to have been noticeably far removed from the 2000s as a decade. That can't be said about 2020.
COVID-19 aside, people don't go about their lives any differently to what they did back in 2016. Streaming services had already taken off in popularity, mumble-rap emerged onto the charts during the second-half of the year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was popular. The pop culture really hasn't changed all that much. Sure, many people can't go to the cinemas or out to restaurants like they could even as little as twelve months ago, but the pop culture itself has largely remained the same. We've been in the one era for pop culture since Trump was elected to office back in November 2016.

We've been in the one era for pop culture since Trump was elected to office back in November 2016. You know. I usually tend to think that the early 2020s culture started around late 2020/early 2021, but I think you do make a lot of sense with this. Besides COVID-19 and I guess personal lives, people daily activities and the pop culture has been very stagnant and basically the same as the late 2010s with no radical changes. I'm not totally saying that I'm changing my mind, but I think this is an eye-opener for me. The 2017-2021 period could be seen as the whole Trump era of the late 2010s, or it could extend to 2022 and it would be both late 2010s and early 2020s culture combined, meaning that we are not in a different era but we are heading towards the slump of the era now that is 2021 rather than the rise in 2017-2019 and the peak that was 2020. Thanks for this different outlook.

Most of 2020 still imo felt like the late 2010s but once we get into 2021, things seem like the early 2020s is starting.

I'm not at all interested in rehashing ad nauseam how culture is more than just the music people listened to and the TV they watched, but I would agree that the Biden Administration is very likely to prompt what we will later consider "2020s culture" to begin in earnest. I think if Trump had instead won re-election (or if right-wing terrorists had been successful in their January coup), it would have been altogether more likely 2020 would seem less like a transition and more like the beginning of what was to come with 2020s culture under Trump Part 2. Get what I mean?

If Biden does nothing that significantly shapes, impacts, or shifts 2010s pop culture towards the 2020s then nothing he does will have any bearing on 2020s pop culture maybe not even on pop culture in general, to be honest he feels like just another president he doesn’t have the never been done before appeal of the last two. Not every president has an impact on pop culture
Obama era had a greater overall influence on 2010s pop culture from start to the current than trump though. Trump barely had much of impact in changing the foundation era for everyone in the same way Obama did. Most Obama era impacts continued on and co existed in the trump era.

I feel like Trump did change the culture a bit although not in a direct way. The late 2010s were a lot more materialistic than the early 2010s. You had influencers and people were 'flexing' by buying up expensive brand items. "Gucci gang" stuff. Things looked a lot more refined. Early 2020s already feel quite different from the late 2010s to me in so many ways. I don't really listen to radio music anymore though. Like a blind man whose hearing becomes sharper, I've become more attuned to other changes that are going on instead. The world of the late 2010s is history tbh.

IMO late 2010s culture began 2 die in spring 2019 with the ending of major 2010s franchises, but the death accelerated throughout 2020 thanks 2 COVID, Biden's win & PS5 release which kickstarted 9th generation gaming, but 2019-2020 leaned late 2010s. Late 2010s culture died on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 on the day of Biden's inauguration. No way can I consider 2021 a cultural late 2010s year, even though late 2010s influences r lingering.

Yeah, all of this. We also all have to remember that COVID is having an impact on pop culture, namely in how works are distributed and consumed. Gone are the big Friday night theatrical debuts, with the high-profile movies of 2020 coming directly to streaming instead. Going forward, this is very likely to have an impact on the kinds of movies that become popular, and in turn, the kinds of movies the big studios end up producing, because the inability to release huge blockbusters on the big screen may very well spell the end of the mega-huge Hollywood blockbuster (MCU, Chris Nolan, action hero flicks, etc.). Also, this may have been more local to me, but a lot of pop culture pre-COVID involved fine dining and downtown night life. Now, the service industry is a shambles, so there goes fine dining, hotels, most brick and mortar stores, bars and clubs, etc. Finally, people seem to be growing accustomed to time at home, and especially working from home. It seems a lot like a certain portion of work time being spent from home is going to outlast the pandemic. Another thing this seems to be affecting is gaming, as people spend more of their leisure time gaming than before. I can't begin to predict how this will impact the kinds of games that are released, but I think we can expect more Fall Guys and Among Us's in the future.

I can't begin to predict how this will impact the kinds of games that are released, but I think we can expect more Fall Guys and Among Us's in the future. Totally agree. These are the possible repercussions from COVID that I was talking about. I also saw recent news stories (like this one: www.connecticutchildrens.org/ask-a-pediatrician/ask-a-pediatrician-now-that-theres-a-covid-19-vaccine-when-will-life-go-back-to-normal-for-my-family/#:~:text=Life%20will%20probably%20not%20return) that say that with a more drastically massive vaccination rollout, we'll probably go back to some sort of normalcy by fall or winter 2021 in America. Also, things like recurring teleworking, frequent/occasional masking in public and major movie releases via streaming services will be probable trends that'll set the 2020s away from 2010s culture.

IMO, now that the Democrats control the Senate, if they impeached 45(which could happen), the entire 2010s would be distinct. The Roaring 2020s will happen.

Impeachment basically means that a federal official gets indicted on charges and is set on trial, which in this case will happen on February 9th.
