I think it’s worth mentioning as well that things may be changing and are not as obvious BECAUSE we are all stuck at home. That is to say, any hallmarks of the new 2020s culture, such as they are, will become more visible - and much more apparent in hindsight - once there is such a thing as public life once again.

Although it’s still kind of hard to tell what will define the early 20s, I have noticed we have been moving away from the late 2010s. Things like Covid, wearing custom/decorated masks, Joe Biden being president, zoom calls, streaming services like HBO Max and Disney+ releasing new films on their platforms as opposed to a traditional theatrical release, PS5 and Xbox Series X, and Among Us are all things I wouldn’t really associate with the late 2010s. Even TikTok is starting to seem more like an early 20s thing than a late 10s thing to me. We are definitely entering a new era but we just aren’t sure where it’s going right now. It’s still really early
Also these songs don’t really scream late 2010s to me for the most part

But I do believe that with these trends you talked about, late 2010s culture is practically on its way out.

Bumping this
With the COVID vaccinations ramping up here in the U.S., my conviction of the culture being fully 2020s by fall or winter of next year seems more likely imo.

We shall see. I think we crossed some kind of rubicon in the mid-2010s that have made actual trend changes essentially impossible but we will see.

Still don’t feel any of the pop culture is different from 2019 with the exception of some very minor changes and a very small amount possible but still uncertain hints of what could catch on at any point between mid to late 2021-2024

If we ignore those factors, then 2021 is a part of the late 2010s world. 2021 movies, TV, music, fashion (besides masks) & pop culture r identical 2 2019 & 2020. Music artists dropping in 2021 is the same as 2019 & 2020. 2021 TV & movies consist of reboots, remakes & sequels like the 2010s. So far 2021 reminds me of 2001 with how long in the tooth late 2010s culture feels. I can c late 2021-mid 2024 being an era of their own, similar 2 late 2001-mid 2004. I call spring 2020-summer 2021 the pseudo early 2020s. 2021 feels barely removed from the late 2010s.

There should have a lot more differences. It’s almost like a big chunk of 2020 got erased because of how frozen it was. We are really in mid 2020 in terms of pop cultural changes compared to 2019. I would say we had around 8-10 months of almost nothingness.

Believe it or not people, but 2020 and 2021 AND their pop culture will be defined by COVID, its regulations, and the political tensions. Crazy, right? No one in let's say 2040 will be looking at 2019 and 2020/especially 2021 as "the same", even in terms of popular culture, because COVID's affected that so much too. It would be like saying early 2000 and late 2001 are the same, simply not true. We are NOT in the Late 2010s pop culturally, except for a few lingering influences "like" social media, which I personally think is going nowhere WELL into the future anyway (for example, think about it, cable TV in popular culture lasted from the 1950s to the 2000s and even 2010s.) Anyone who thinks we're even in a "mostly" 2019-like world is missing the bigger picture. Music and internet culture are not the defining force at the moment like they were in the Late 2010s. They ARE there, but they don't count when considering which era we are living in right now.

“Drivers License” is blowing up like crazy and it’s basically the same slow pop songs we’ve been getting since like the mid-late 2010’s. There are some songs from 2016/2017 that I think would actually sound dated had they been released today, but I really don’t believe that we’re disconnected from the cultural late 2010’s at all, especially 2019. Pop culture is moving at a way slower pace now thanks to music streaming, and that trend shows no signs of stopping. IMO there was more change between 2007-2010 than there was between 2017-2020.

They see what they want to see, in the most superficial frame of analysis possible.
