As its name suggests, COVID-19 actually started in 2019 (with the first case appearing in November in China). And 2019 is when I noticed pop culture shift in another direction with the release of The Mandalorian and the popularity of Gen Z artists like Billie Eilish popping up, and the first real foldable phone being released (Samsung's original Z Fold). We are in a sub-era now and if all goes well with the vaccines then this pandemic will be a thing of the past by January 2022 and we will see some new stuff come out then. This is a similar case like the Y2K era.

I would never count 2019 as the COVID era.

This is a similar case like the Y2K era. Late 2016 - Until Spring 2019 is one era in my opinion (literally the late 2010s minus the fall) Trump getting elected, The far right, Nintendo Switch coming out and the hysteria that is still there with Animal crossing lol, Billy Ellish, Emo Rap rise, E boy E girl, Tik Tok. Things started changing in early 2019 with Game of Thrones ending, Lil Nas X,Tik Tok and Emo coming back with E boy E girl. Weinstein Drama, Cancel culture. MTV's TRL comes back for a cup of coffee. Even more reboots. Baggy fashion is back, Tide Pod craze. The end of Hipster.
Fall 2019 - Jan 2020 is like the 2020s alternate dimension, with the Mandalorian & all the new trends of Fall 2019 still strong. Star Wars reboot the MAIN thing of the mid 2010s ends with the rise of skywalker. Generation Z buzzword in everything in media.
Feb 2020 - right now 2021
The covid era, this era won't be over until well Covid is a wrap, we are seeing good signs of it being over with the vacs. Biden is in office and the orange man is gone, Tv networks are on autopilot as streaming has eclipsed it 10 fold. DMX died. HBO max / theater releases at home the NEW thing. Pop Punk came back in the mainstream.
Future Timeline :
It is possible late 2021 goes on a 2011 and 2001 route where everything is clear in a "new" era by then. But to be honest this "new" era started when Covid broke out.

IMO
Fall 2016 - Winter 2020 (2017-2019): The Late 2010s
*Note: While Spring 2019 to March 2020 did have a bit of a transition going, its pretty much just an extension of the Late 2010s compared to March 2020 - present. If COVID never happened, it would've held more ground because it would've lasted longer than a year.
Spring 2020 - present (2020-2021, likely 2022): The COVID-19 Era/The Early 2020s
Who knows when the COVID era will end, where I live even Fall 2021 is wishful thinking (we are currently under our third lockdown). Fall 2021 and 2022 might be the transition out of the COVID era with vaccines becoming more widespread. I suspect we'll have a hold on it by the beginning of 2023, and that'll be the start of the Core 2020s.

Nope. Not enough differences since around mid 2019 for any era change yet

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thinks that 2021 is on a possible 2001 trend (it's hopefully in reverse since 2001 had an earlier calm period and then a hectic late era with 9/11 and the paranoia that came with it).

Usually when there is a new president a new "shift" starts or has already been underway before them taking office. IE : See Obama, Clinton, George W
Things that are already here that are bringing us to Fall 2021
New President - Established in January 2021 when Biden sat in office Pop Punk revival ( MGK, JDXN, yungBlood etc etc) - established since late 2018 going into 2019 Nintendo Switch 4K PRO - Not yet confirmed but likely coming at the end of the year Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X - established since November 2020 Xbox working with Nintendo - - Not established but rumor is Xbox is allowing game pass games on Switch The Vaccine - - It is already in full swing as of 3 weeks ago People gathering in groups again - you are already seeing it with Wrestlemania (30,000 fans attendance) and NFL games

I gotta feeling that the fall of 2021 would be different from now. IDK if you heard about this but the Biden Administration is going to withdrawal the US troops from Afghanistan on September 11th, 2021(20 years since that day).
