I think 2019 - 2022 or 2020 - 2023 will be a big change

2018 and 2021. Pop music aside, these two years are light years apart.

2018 and 2021. Pop music aside, these two years are light years apart. This. People here seem to dismiss everything else in favour of the sound of pop music (like 2018 and 2021), and overexagerate the differences of others based on the difference of pop music (like 2004 and late 2006/2007).

For post-1970: One I can def think of is 1991 & 1994. MAYBE 1994 and 1997, not quite sure there... The 70s and 80s on the otherhand don't have any three year gaps that seem that huge tbh.
The 2000s do, I was thinking 2002 and 2005 actually (technology saw a huge shift and there was enough cultural & political change to back it up too).
The 2010s, not really any that pop up on the top of my mind.

How about 1990 to 1993? Between that time, the USSR/Soviet Union fell, there was Operation Desert Storm, the transition from Bush 41 to Clinton, grunge/alt rock began to dominate over hair metal (along with grunge fashion), and Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis became the main rivals of the 16-bit wars.

That's a good one but, I shifted it 1 year foward as with 1994 you have the internet becoming commercailized and 1993 still has times where it feels dated without the need of tech in frame (not as much as 1990 - 1992 though).

Late 2006 tho had a ton of shifts not just music such as Facebook becoming public and the launch of ps3 and wii. Also democrats taking the house. The shift obv was not as big as 2001 and 2008.

The 2010s, not really any that pop up on the top of my mind. I also thought 2002 and 2005. 2002 was a VHS, web 1.0, dial up and pre-social media world just like the 1990s. 5th generation consoles lingered in 2002. 2002 isn’t core or mid 2000s and has more in common with 1999 than with 2005. 2002 is barely removed from the late 1990s, despite it being a post-9/11 world. 2002 is the last full year for late 1990s influences before they died throughout 2003 and 2004. 9/11 didn’t change anything culturally. The change occurred throughout 2001. 2001 and 2002 had minor core 2000s influences which didn’t become noticeable until mid to late 2003 or 2004. 2001 and 2002 are identical pop culturally. 2002 was peak early 2000s. iPods and cellphones were still luxuries in 2002. 2005 was peak mid and core 2000s. 2005 had no late 1990s leftovers and no 5th generation gaming remnants. 2005 was a web 2.0, DVD, broadband and early social media world. iPods and cellphones were common place in 2005. The only commonalities 2002 has in common with 2005 is the president, post 9/11, some TV shows, some fashion some musicians although the styles changed between those 2 years, 6th generation gaming and they’re both classic 2000s years. 2005 was the last full year of early 2000s influences before they died throughout 2006 and 2007. Other than those aspects, 2002 and 2005 felt like different eras. IMO 2002 was better than 2005. 2002 was miles above 2005 that it’s not up for debate with me and no question about it. 2002 is more memorable than 2005. 2002 is my favorite year of the 2000s. 2002 > 2005 all the way.

The change from 2006 - 2009 was massive. 1998 - 2001 as well.

The change from 2006 - 2009 was massive. 1998 - 2001 as well. it really was lol 2001's shifts were game changer, not just 9 /11 which changed things politically & the impeding war but as I have stated before teen pop died out , xbox and gamecube and GBA launches. Grand Theft Auto 3 launches, Fast and The Furious launches, just so many staple 2000s things became solid in 2001, Michelle Branch, Shakira, Adult Swim, just soooooo many things. Late 2001 is literally the base DNA of the 2000s

Mid to late 1991 and early 1994 were similar, despite more mid 90s modifications around late 92-late 93. Late 1994 and late 1997 were a bit different despite some lasting connections until early 1998. Late 1994 and early 1997 weren’t exactly similar but not too different, I would say similar in a large numbers of ways but slightly separated because of a few stronger late 90s shifts that occurred in mid to late 96.

In no particular order:
1992-1995 - Clinton replaces H.W Bush as president - Windows 95 comes out in late 1995 - 1992 has 16-bit gaming while the PS1 and N64 debut and so does 3D gaming by 1995 - Some noticeable, although rare, Y2K influences pop up in 1995 as opposed to virtually none in 1992 - East Coast vs West Coast Hip Hop rivalry was in full swing in 1995 while gangsta rap was still in its early phase in 1992 - 80s influences completely gone by 1995 unlike in 1992 which had some noticeable holdovers
2018-2021 - Biden replaces Trump as president - Brexit officially happens by 2021 but wasn’t official in 2018 - Hipster fashion still lingered in 2018 while a more Gen Z fashion identity is starting to take over in 2021 - 2018 is pre-Covid while in 2021 we are still dealing with the virus but we have the vaccine - More new artist have gotten more popular since 2018 such Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, Lizzo, Billie Eillish, Roddy Ricch, Olivia Rodrigo, etc. - Music is more upbeat and melodic in 2021 and trap influences are slowly fading although still present and noticeable - Big movie releases are on streaming services (which we have way more of) in 2021 unlike 2018
2006-2009 - Obama replaces George Bush as president - Apple had released multiple iPhones by 2009. No iPhones existed in 2006 - MySpace was the most popular social media in 2006 while Facebook replaces it by 2009 - 2006 is peak 2000s while 2009 is still culturally late 00s but has early 10s elements creeping in - Modern Family, Glee, Breaking Bad, and other shows that would be popular in the early 2010s are on air in 2009 while 2006 had Malcom in the Middle, That 70s Show, Drake & Josh, etc. - Electropop is on the charts in 2009 unlike 2006 - Drake, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and Nicki Minaj are all becoming popular in 2009 unlike in 2006 which had core 00s artists like Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo, Kelly Clarkson, Timbaland, etc. - Skinny jeans and hipster fashion start to become popular in 2009 unlike in 2006
