Seems like it's getting a ton of love and rightfully so, well before Trump got elected

Please god no.
I’m of the belief that there was no real shift in late 2016. Absolutely nothing felt different other than trump on tv and increased maga hats snd SJWs arguing over trivial things between summer and december.
Spring into summer 2015 - 2016 were just planting late 10s seeds that would solidify into more of different vibe at some in the early part of 2017
mid 2015 and all of 2016 = Bland and watered down mid to 2010s period 2016 datedness = 70-75 percent similar to 2021.

2016 was awful, seriously. There's little to no redeeming features about it whatsoever.

2016 is getting the Nostalgia treatment like 2010-2015. It feels like the last year before late 10s/early 20s culture took over, it also feels detached from today's political and internet (specially meme) culture. God, remember harambe and here comes that boy?.
I'd say 2016 to 2017 is peak 2010s.
2019 was a weird stand-out like 1989 and 1999.

I felt like 2011 to early 2015 is peak 2010s spring 2015- to early 2017 was more of a mass produced and toned down version of mid 2012 to early 2015. Spring 2017 to late 18/early 2019 - The exact same but peak Trump and some different fads/trends. 2019 to present is still the exactly same but more modifications ( Biden, PS5, pop punk, creeping Y2k influence, start of vaccines, halt on certain pop culture ) COVID and some core 2010s culture slowing drying up by the year.

I'm affraid pop culture has become somewhat stagnant since 2018, hope something big happens later this year

Right now, 2016 is getting an "aesthetic" treatment on TikTok lol.

More like putting it on a raft and burn that raft down then that would be great.

2016 was awful, seriously. There's little to no redeeming features about it whatsoever. In my opinion, 2020 changed that. 2020 was so bad that even the worst years of the 2010s don't seem all that bad by comparison. I used to have 2013 and 2014, but through the lens of 2020 there's a lot I've come to like about them. I'd say 2016 is an important stepping stone on the pathway that led us to 2020, but that really began in 2015 when same-sex marriage was legalized.

I'd say 2016 is an important stepping stone on the pathway that led us to 2020, but that really began in 2015 when same-sex marriage was legalized. Maybe the roots trace back to late 2014 when Republicans won all seats in the election and Trump was considering running for president then. Political correctness, the wars between Sjw vs Alt right, liberals vs conservatives blew up. Trump didn’t announce his campaign until June 16, 2015. Obama was still pretty popular in 2014 and the overall zeitgeist was still pretty progressive. That was also before Caitlyn Jenner's appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in June 2015. That was another moment that really propelled us into the current political era. It's beyond ironic that she's a Republican and a Trump supporter. The legalization of same-sex marriage was the big event that created the current political situation. That was the catalyst for causing the Christian Right to lose their collective minds and decide that a dictator or an overthrow of the US government is necessary in order to restore "traditional values."
