Anyone notice how the 2020s are shaping up to be the opposite of the 2010s? Rock music (a non-entity in the 2010s) is coming back, Edm (extremely dominant in the 2010s) is pretty much dead.
I feel like the aesthetics are changing too. There has been a huge backlash against the minimalist, squeaky clean aesthetic of the 2010s.
the right wing politics that were big in the second half of the 2010s are starting to die down a bit, i suspect all the (democratically elected) right-wing strongmen of the 2010s will lose their power in the 2020s. There's also a possiblity that Putin dies of old age during this decade.
Could this be an 80s vs 90s situation all over again? Where we completely reject everything that defined the previous decade?

For pop culture I can see the mid '20s being really bright and colourful and materialistic. Even if something terrible happens in the world like war, the music and culture will be really bright. Music will be fast, upbeat, with a fast tempo again.

I agree fully with this, even in underground spaces there are full-out reactions against the 2010s. I was in a research group for consumer aesthetics and nearly all analysts are saying that the 2020s are a heavy reaction against the 2010s. This includes the resurrection and modernization of older aesthetics such as: 2010s -> 2020s minimalism -> maximalism flat design -> frutiger aero/polychrome 80s vaporwave -> neo y2k flat UI -> neo skeuomorphism 808 drum samples -> anything else 80s inspired fashion -> 2000s/70s inspired fashion undercuts on men -> medium-long hair is the norm for men skinny jeans -> wide pants (unless if paired with scene-revival styles) athleisure -> retro loose fit clothing anti-rock -> bedroom pop/pop punk rising olive/burgundy/rose gold/mustard yellow -> lavender/cerulean/mint Thereโs much more and If people are interested I could make a comprehensive thread about the reactions against the 2010s during the 2020s.

I definitely do see many women wearing wide and baggy pants like it was the Y2K. Among younger men, I see a bunch of long curly and shaggy hair. Honestly can't wait to see neo-Y2K design going mainstream. I'm so tired of seeing vaporwave aesthetics all over media. Probably all of this will come together in full swing by 2023 or 2024.
