Oh god, the inspirational posters with text written in cursive... The comically big blackboard writings... That gallery screams 2010s.

The 2010s are the most colorless decade, especially 2013 through 2019 or the twenty teens hehehehe. The colorless really peaked in 2017 and 2018. Those were the darkest years of the 2010s. Yeah maximalism started creeping back in around late 2016 or 2017, but minimalism was still the majority. Sure we had pastel colors, but they were faded and did not pop like the 2000s colors did. 2000s were the decade of shiny aesthetics, pink, gold and bling bling. 2010 through 2012 are all electropop and neon colors, so they are the most colorful part of the 2010s, but 2010 through 2012 is not well representative or stereotypical of the 2010s as a whole as those years had late 2000s influences.

TBH the more I think about it, the more I realize how much it varies based on era. For example, I find the early 2000s were quite a colorful era in regards to pop culture and technology (think Windows XP, GameCube, SpongeBob, that sort of thing). However, the late 2000s feel far less colorful to me. Lots of neutral colors, dark blues and greens. Just compare the GameCube to the Wii, not the games themselves but the overall aesthetic of the console. But with that said, the games of that time period certainly don’t help, with their washed-out brown graphics. But IMO if I had to pick an entire decade as the most colorless, I’ll actually choose the 70s. The colors that were present were mostly earth tones, and everything had a very muted look to it. Woodgrain was everywhere in interior design and even electronics. Even cartoons from 70s look incredibly muted and depressing. Even though the 70s may be an old decade, just comparing it to the 50s from two decades prior (the decade of pink and blue everywhere) shows that it’s not just the decade’s age. Things did start to become more colorful during the disco era, but the early-mid 70s, which compromises the bulk of the decade, was very muted and colorless.

I like the shiny aesthetic of the mid/late 2000s. Windows Vista, certain music videos, the slider phones of the time. Think "2007". That extended into the early 2010s too. Think Windows 7, early iOS, early Androids. Mid 2010s is where is really died

Late 00s were more colorful for fashion than the early 00s See, it even varies based on which particular aspects of life you look at. Trends in fashion will not always line with trends in technology, trends in video games, trends in movies, etc. Like in terms of video games, the success of the Switch and Fortnite has actually made the late 2010s the most colorful era of the 2010s for video games. By contrast, unlike other aspects of pop culture, video games of the early 2010s were actually incredibly muted. Think Call of Duty and Battlefield.
