So for those who need a refresher, I was the one that foretold of pop punk coming back in 2018 and 2019popedia.boards.net/thread/2298/punks-radio-comeback-slated-late?page=2 And this is me again telling you the genre in the mainstream will be dead by 2024. For those who are unaware ( and this isn't all MGK's fault) There is a huge backlash already starting to grow, Various factors are contributing to this, The When we were young show ( being advertised as Boomer vibes nostalgia show)MGK's emo girl song ( which is getting hate ), Travis Barker appearing on everyones track and thus spawning the term " Travis Barker Core" in addition to very inauthentic artists starting to crop op that sound very Radio Disney. The pop punk community on discord is already starting to turn on the genre. Punk Rock MBA said it best in one of his latest videos " The genre is moving way 2 fast and is turning into Grunge circa 1992/1993 " where it is so commercialized it becomes a parody of itself and dies.
Reference* Right now the wheels are in motion of the new version of the genres downfall...

I've definitely noticed it; the backlash, especially in music and pop culture circles. What do you think may replace it?

You heard it here first I'm surprised to know that a backlash is already underway. I recall you said that scene will pop up in summer 2022. I didn't think pop punk would get backlash until 2023. When in 2024 would you say pop punk will die? We might not even make it to seen if this continues, any buzz of Scene will be in and out for a cup of coffee by summer, This is really bad, like this is really really bad, I didn't want to make this thread, I wanted pop punk to thrive and be a positive thing to look forward to, but now I can't I just can't. I have thought about posting this thread for several weeks knowing what is about to happen, I just didn't want it to be true lol As for when it will die, around Late 2022 to Mid 2023 and by 2024 it won't even be on the air anymore

Pure pop Music is going to come back again as well as possibly Nu Metal as a backlash to the corniness of this wave. There is already a Nu metal wave underground going on, but it is relatively small. I really didn't want to make this thread, I really didn't but I couldn't hold back any long and not say something. I was hoping maybe this would blow over the last several weeks but nope, the backlash is getting even worse.

I didn’t want this to be true either lol. I still can’t believe it. I feel like pop punk just became a cultural force around mid to late 2021 or that may have been between late 2018 to late 2020. I had a sinking feeling this was going to happen

Seems like pop punk already reached their peak, although it doesn’t feel like it. Yupp this is the peak right here and its all going downward is seems

Yupp this is the peak right here and its all going downward is seems That's terrible. 2022 is still too early for pop punk to decline imo. Yeah I think pop punk from 1994-1998 needs to come back like the below. l say this while early to mid 2000s had some solid original stuff, a lot of it was too radio friendly pop punk or watered down form of the same style espeically 03-06. I don't feel like we have to rush years tbh, I think we can spend 10 years in 1994/95-2004 nostalgia, we don't have to fly through 2000s nostgia so fast. Emo from the mid 90s to 2003-04 needs to come back. I hope latter 2000s emo or culture doesn't get embraced until 2026 or something, its way too early and to be honest that period wasn't as good compared to the other times imo, lets exhaust the crap out of 95 to 2004 or early 2005ish before rushing through the whole decade.

As much as I love the music you sent above I am afraid this is the start of the end for pop punk being on the radio lol, E-Girl/ E Boy sub culture is in jeopardy right now as well.

I don’t know about you, I’m actually not really impressed with the way 2020s is turning out, lately more than ever. I don’t think ever been this bad. I’m finding the puffy shoe trend very very cringe, seems like all shoes are now looking like this, it’s looks really low effort forced corny and cheesy. Nobody in the Y2k era wore shoes that look like goofy designer sneakers that sneaker fan hipsters would wear in 2015. Im not liking the way 2020s aesthetics seem like nouveau futuristic sci-fi with Y2K vibes it feels more like a Tumblr subculture from 2010-2012, it’s that shallow, doesn’t seem practical or entirely omnipresent like the way the early 2010s were oozing with 2010sness which was felt in the time. Something feel very very off about this decade like it’s missing more than a soul, I can’t put all the blame on Covid. Even 2010 wasn’t this bad.

I had a sinking feeling this was going to happen I had a feeling pop punk that pop punk would last through at least the early 2020s, but definitely wouldn't last until the end of the 2020s. updating the thread title, it's now 2023 things are getting bad guys, some people reading this thread have no idea how bad it is right now lol This sh*t is not lasting to the end of the year

The whole trend was built on nostalgia anyway, so I’m not really surprised. I just want something that sounds uniquely 2020s and couldn’t exist at anytime.

I remember looking at a poll from r/poppunkers a while back that measures whether the subreddit was getting sick of "Travis Barker Core." The response was leaning towards 'yes' but it wasn't an outright majority. I thought that pop punk would still have some lease of life this year, even when throwing Barker out the window but, when put into context what has transpired over the last fortnight or so, I kind of agree with the original prediction (and also, to an extend, the new one).
